Well, if you guys are getting chuggers being rude to you and giving you the hard sell and trying to force you into signing up you need to call up and complain. Remember, to call the organization that is running the campaign though, and not the charity itself. There are actually very strict regulations about how face to face fundraising can be done and if people are trying to make you feel obligated into signing up then they're in breach of those regulations and you have every right to complain. The company I work for makes it incredibly clear that we are not to use the techniques that door-to-door sales people employ, and we're not paid on commision so there is much less pressure on us to get you to sign-up. Remember to get the fundraisers name and ID number as well.
I'm sorry you've all had such bad experiences with chuggers but charities have found its the most effective way of getting people to sign-up. Not everyone has access to the internet, or the facts, and so we're not out there just to make you sign-up but to explain what our charity does and has done, to improve people's lives.
I know you want all of your money to go straight to the people who need it but unless you board a plane, fly over to them, and hand them the cash yourselves its just not going to happen. Door-to-door fundraising actually has the lowest admin costs, lower than donating through charity shops and the internet. Even if you go down to the bank or post offoce and give in a donation there will still be admin fees. As I say, our costs are covered entirely by gift aid so all of the money you sign up to donate goes to the people its intended for.
And chuggers do save lives. For every sign-up we get, we have raised on average £700 for our charity. We'd make a lot more money, trust me if we dropped out jobs and joined something like Cobra, but nearly every chugger is in it for the charity.0 -

tesphen, you might be an honest "chugger" but that's not to say all chuggers are like you. Some will be on commission only deals getting paid something like £40 per new-sign-up.
"I already donate" is a good line I use when someone comes up to me wanting money0 -
It depends if anybody is working the 'night' shift so-to-speak. I've reported her 3 times to the Abuse team, which is probably 2 times too many0
