Yes the ones on the car are alloys and the spare is a steel wheel. My drive to and from work is 4 miles each way, and alot of it is stop and go, I never really exceed 40 miles. So I should be alright then, I think.
And Im a she not a he

Apologies for that, force of habit.livalicious wrote: »Yes the ones on the car are alloys and the spare is a steel wheel. My drive to and from work is 4 miles each way, and alot of it is stop and go, I never really exceed 40 miles. So I should be alright then, I think.

You should be alright but I'd be looking to get it replaced asap. Is there nowhere near work you can drop the car of for a new tyre?0 -
Although they are within a hairs breadth of each other in terms of diameter I’m pretty sure the law says they must be the same size across an axle.
I guess there is an exemption for spares supplied, designed and marked by the manufacturer for “temporary use at restricted speed” so that space savers can be used. Whether you could convince a bobby that this applied to you I’m not sure.0 -
No worries

I ordered a new tyre yesterday, and the earliest they could fit it is on Thursday, this is why I was asking if I would be ok to drive with the spare until then.0 -

I don't think you'd be stopped, it'll be pretty obvious that its a spare wheel. Does the wheel itself have any markings on the face or is it just a plain steel wheel? Also, one thing you should do is go and check the tyre pressures on the spare.livalicious wrote: »If I was stopped, surely I could just show them my receipt as confirmation that a new tyre will be fitted? That’s where it gets tricky, in the old days common sense would be applied (and even more so for a female
), these days the police seem to be a humourless bunch so I wouldn’t be so sure.
On balance I think I’d use it as it’s obviously different from the rest and, applying common sense, is a lot safer than a space saver spare would be even though it doesn’t have the manufacturers stamps etc.0 -

Its a plain steel wheel. Thanks for reminding me about the tyre pressure, Im gonna do that first thing when I leave work tonight!
Vaio if i did get stopped, I think the coppers would probably be more interested in my tinted windows than my spare wheel

ps. Mikey72 what is a spacesaver??
That doesn't sound like a spacesaver, it sounds more like the original wheels/tyres have been changed for lower profile ones. Might that be the case?
If it is, then the spare should be rated way above 50mph.
On the other hand, the car would fail it's MOT if you tried to get it through with different sizes on the same axle so it is a liitle bit illegal. Doubt if you would actually get done for it though. Most possibly be told to change ASAP.0
