4 nails in tyre!

Hi there,
Checked my tyre yesterday as it was really flat, and wouldnt inflate when I put air in it. On closer inspection found out that there are 4 nails in the tyre! I must subconsciously seek them out on the road and drive over them!
Ive put the spare on and spoken to two garages, one said it could be repaired as its not on the shoulder of the tyre, another said it should be replaced.
My question is, is it safe to drive with a tyre that has 4 puncture repairs, or should I replace the tyre. I have Conti Sports that cost quite a few bob, and I just replaced the front one a few months ago.

With that amount of repair I'd say replace the tyre, that's only my opinion. All it takes is one of those repairs to fail and you're back to square one.0

if the tyre is repaired properly then yes it is safe...0

4 punctures in 1 tyre?
I would get a new tyre, the reckomended safe area of repair is any repair more than an inch from the corner shoulder of the tyre.0 -
It also depends how close they are to each other. Puncture repair patches should NEVER overlap on the inside, so anything closer than about 2 inches, I'd be very wary. Also, as Aldo says above, they cannot be repaired close to the shoulder of the tyre, and don't even think of trying to get a sidewall repair...
Can sympathise. I once picked up 4 punctures in 4 weeks, the third of which happened on the motorway at speed (which was so much fun... not) and the fourth of which was a shard of glass which put an inch long slash across the tread. Not fun when your tyres are over £100 per corner...Fight Crime : Shoot Back.

4 punctures in 4 weeks?? ....ouch! Would not want to be in that situation with you on the motorway, i would proper freak out!
Ive ordered a new tyre now, the garage said because I drove around yesterday with it like it, it damaged the side wall and would be a bit risky just repairing it. Oh well, safety first, and ive won some dosh on the grand national which will go towards that, so I cant complain really.
Thanks again for your replies everyone!0 -
Oh forgot to ask before, the spare im using at the moment is totally different measurements to the other 3 tyres. Is this ok to drive on until Thursday when I get the new tyre fitted? I travel less than 8 miles a day?0

if i got 4 nails in one tyre i would be wondering who i had upset recently0

Funny you should say that, i just mentioned about the tyre to a mate, and he said the same thing! Seriously, who does that? If it was someone with a vendetta, though i cant think of anyone, maybe I just have a really annoying face - wouldnt they just scratch the car. Ive never heard of sticking nails in people's tyres before, but then im not a spiteful person. Hmmmm.... very interesting :think:0

check your drive, and your parking space at work...;)
when you say different measurements, do you mean it is narrower? That's ok - if it's a different diameter then no, it's not ok.:)Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
