If its a back tyre then its possible that the front tyre has 'flipped' flat laying nails into an upright postion, if its a front tyre then it would be very unusual.

Are you messing about with someone elses wife?

My spacesaver has totally different measurements, it's even about 2 inches smaller in diameter, let alone width and profile.

The regular tyres are 225/45/R17 and the spare is 205/55/R16, I take it thats seriously illegal then!

Apart from that is it also damaging to the wheel or car driving like that even for just a couple of days? I sound like such a dunce asking this, but Im hopeless with cars!

I havent been messing with anyone's wife (my boyfriend would not be impressed.... or would he... :p) and Im racking my brain trying to think who I might have (inadvertently) peed off.

It is the back tyre by the way, I did wonder why the nails were in that tyre and not the front but that should explain why (thats if someone hasnt put it in there)

Im really rather paranoid now :o

ps. Mikey72 what is a spacesaver??

There is no legal limit to the number of repairs in a car tyre, as long as each one of them is done correctly to the British Standard, and none of the inside patches overlap. It isn't necessarily safe however, and I think you were correct to replace the tyre.

Spacesavers usually (but not always) have big warning labels stuck to the wheel warning not to exceed a set speed, but I don't have one, so I can't really help on that score :(

Spacesavers are quite small, and only designed for emergency use, for a limited mileage.
From the size of yours, it's not a spaceaver, as it's going to be about the same size on the car.
Are the ones on the car alloys, and the spare a steel wheel?

No, that's pretty much standard for a spacesaver wheel to be smaller than the standard wheels, it'll have a higher profile though which will give it a similar rolling diameter to the standard sizes. It'll only be rated to go up to 50mph though and for fairly short distances.

    A 205/55/R16 won't save much space, it's a full size tyre.
