I don't for a second believe that this mailshot was anything other than directly targeted at sufferers from cancer and the only way to do this would be by abusing the new central NHS database.

That's not true. Data collection has been going on for years. The central database will have nothing to do with this. Private companies are used to collate huge amounts of data in the NHS, which can be broken down into whatever you want really.

It's the linking of the names and addresse's which could be problematic for labour.

That data should be anonymous though, I would have thought.

I guess they have picked names and addresses from the Electoral Roll in areas with higher cancer occurrence.

I've got access, it's not anonymous. It just doesn't give the actual name.

but labour aren't promising a one week diagnosis vivatifosi! they are promising that when you are sent for tests you will get the results of those tests back in a week. the problem at the moment is that you can be referred for tests and then wait to be given the results of those tests. it's not just for cancer it happens for other tests too. the point of the target is to make services answerable for any delay.

a diagnosis is different to test results.

And how many promises have Labour kept in the last 13 years?
Labours problem is they can promise what they want now, anyone with a brain will not believe them as they have countlessly not carried out their promises. (I believe there were over 100 not carried out or gone against in their previous manifesto)
"Referendum anyone? No need it is slightly different etc etc."

ah. I had thought you might have meant postcode or address data that could narrow it down to a few individuals.
I don't see why NHS number should be supplied to data modeling agencies.
Surely it's a breach of Doctor-Patient confidentiality, and Data Protection.

An NHS number is as good as that if you have the tool to match it.
  • So basically we have a Labour leaflet which surprisingly for a political piece during an election makes a claim that is factully correct (as fact-checked by the media). Which wasn't sent out by illegally using the NHS database as alleged.

Wonderful own goal by the Tories this one - keep the media focused on a cancer pledge made by Labour which you have dropped.
