Labour target cancer sufferers in new ad

Why would they select just 250,000 women though? They may not all have cancer but it is a very small number to target if they did not have some information on the health of the people they were sending it to.
the tories do the same - targetting people who go hunting for example. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Maybe because a normal person would recognise that it's highly insensitive to target someone likely to be suffering from or had suffered from cancer using a database, and draw attention to their suffering in order to make a cheap political point? It's not clear that the point Labour were trying to get across was even true.
How would you feel if you had a close relative killed in Iraq, and the Liberal Democrat party sent you and other relatives of dead soldiers a leaflet pointing out they didn't support the war in Iraq? Would that be a justified invasion of privacy to make a cheap political point?
Would you agree with the independent King's Fund report out yesterday that said that the NHS had improved considerably under Labour ?
Do you think it would have improved under a Tory government ?US housing: it's not a bubble

So you think sending flyers to people that go hunting is equivalent to targeting people who have suffered/are suffering from a deadly disease?
yes. i wouldn't mind being informed of the different policies of prospective parties on an illness i was suffering from. just as if i had hiv i would want to know if there was a different treatment i was likely to get under different parties. or if i was gay or from an immigrant background i'd want to know about those policies. Those who will not reason, are bigots, those who cannot, are fools, and those who dare not, are slaves. - Lord Byron0 -

Why not make a statement/press release like the torys did on cancer drugs instead of a targeted mail shot.
In reality this is nothing to do with likely treatment, it is from a political party. As far as I know it will be the NHS treating people not the Labour party.Cards addressed to sufferers by name warn that a Labour guarantee to see a cancer specialist within two weeks would be scrapped by the Tories. Labour claims the Conservatives would also do away with the right to be treated within 18 weeks.
As far as I know this as not been confirmed as corrrect.0 -

this is the most ridiculous comment i have seen from you. of course government policy influences the ability of the nhs to treat people and in fact enables its very existence. i expect a poll of frontline nhs staff will find that the majority will not be voting conservative. i wonder why?
this article in nursing times finds nurses unconvinced by the conservatives.

So you agree with the mailshot?
Do you actually believe the mailshot was for information not political gain?
Do you really believe the conservatives are going to purposely endanger lives?0 -

I think it has improved under Labour, not surprising given that spending has tripled. However, most of the extra money has gone on higher wages. I would imagine if the Conservatives had won the 1997 election they would not have spent as much, so the NHS is probably better as a result of Labour.
By the way, what's that got to do with sending targeted political advertisements to cancer sufferers?yes. i wouldn't mind being informed of the different policies of prospective parties on an illness i was suffering from. just as if i had hiv i would want to know if there was a different treatment i was likely to get under different parties. or if i was gay or from an immigrant background i'd want to know about those policies.
So you think the Labour party should also send targeted, individually addressed leaflets to all people with HIV, all people that are homosexuals, all people that first generation immigrants with scare stories about the opposition too?
I think most (normal) people would tend to agree with this woman, who actually received the leaflet and thinks it's a gross invasion of privacy:
