Yes! No problems. If you are putting pastry on the bottom of the pie, I would take as little juice as possible otherwise you will end up with a soggy bottom! The juice can be served separately with the custard/cream.

When I make fruit pies, I tend to use raw fruit: eg sliced apples and a good handful of blackberries. Sprinkle sugar over the fruit and to help soak up the juices I also sprinkle over some ground rice. The pie crust then goes on the top.

Just a reminder to all and sundry to get blackberry picking!!!!

OH took kids to the wood at the weekend and came back with enough (free) blackberries to fill a full shelf of the freezer (not that we froze them all - there's been some serious blackberry eating too!). I took them again yesterday, and the fruit were all just rotting on the bushes, there were so many of them. Waste not want not, especially at the moment, so it seems awful to let all this free fruit go to waste.

Even better than pick your own as it's all free; on a hedgerow or in a wood near you.

Anyone got any good blackberry recipes?!

Here's a blackberry wine recipe - well, actually it's an apple wine recipe, but you can replace the apples with blackberries weight for weight and make blackberry wine instead:

This is 2cats1kid's blackberry curd recipe (which is fab looking!):

A lot better than last year. All gone in freezer for crumbles when cooking apples fall off tree and to add to porrige in winter.
