blackberry picking

I think I have blackberries in the garden. What do they look like?

Do a search on google for blackberry fruit and you should see some images of them.

I take the mutt on a small hill near me, every day i get a handfull from the bushes take them home and freeze them till i have enough to do jam.

And what i have noticed is the more you pick the blackberries the more they seem to produce.!

I get a bit obsessed this time of year..whenever im out walking my eyes are scanning everywhere for the little diamonds!

Tomorrow im off to see Mum and do some Dewberry picking...good job the freezer had a defrost today

That's just reminded me of a story. Some years ago I was under a lot of stress and taking anti-depressants and had to pop into the doctors' surgery on a monthly basis so she could assure herself I didn't look suicidal . (Happy to say this was not an issue and I was friendly with my doctor so it was more of a nice chat). However, I pitched up one month to find a locum and she was most concerned that I had huge horizontal scratches across my lower arms. Took quite a while for her to understand it was due to a busy weekend of blackberry picking!

A tale Mr LW is fond of recounting is of when his father and grandfather were out blackberrying with the rest of the family. Grandpa leaned over too far to pick the blackberries, and fell base over apex into a nettle patch. Dad leaned down to help him out, grandpa started swearin' and cussin', and dad laughed so much that he dropped grandpa straight back into the nettles!:rotfl:

I think it's a bit early for "brambles" up her over the border, but isn't a plentiful supply of berries a warning of a severe winter

Was cursing last weekend whilst visiting the in-laws that I didn't take a bag with me when DH took our nephew out for an evening walk! I couldn't believe how many ripe blackberries there were - hanging like grapes they were! Still managed to get quite a few and put them in the bottom of nephew's pram, then quickly wiped the juice up before handing him and the pram back!

Now in the freezer ready for ice-cream! Will get the recipe soon if anyone would like it?!

Blackberry and apple pie....mum used to make it for sunday lunch and it was lovely!...I'll have to give it a whirl.

Loads of blackberries here in Surrey. Our next door neighbour, who is a good friends, has hundreds of them! We are picking and freezing like mad!
