I want to echo other's thoughts on PTSD too, particularly as you seemed to bury reactions to the incident at the time and now you find it resurfacing. Your mind is basically telling you it needs to be dealt with. Why now? Well possibly for the reasons you describe, other distractions/focus points for your mind have gone - the debt and abusive relationship. Now these major factors are gone other things which have had to wait their turn a while are coming to the fore.

Just to update you all, my girlfriend and I had a very long discussion last night and continued this morning, where we discussed loads of things in our lives, us, me, and her.

We're still together, and will support each other with our issues. We're definitely going to America in July as well. :D Can't wait until Saturday to see her.

I just now need to get some help for the other problems I have.

Thanks for all your constructive comments and advice. I knew deep down posting here was a good idea.

Well done you, that was one step forward and I'm glad your girlfriend understood, at least now she knows she'll be able to ehlp and understand more.

    Best of luck...

We can never know for certain how anything will turn out in the future (if you can, there are quite a lot of fortunes awaiting you). All you can do is make the best judgement on the basis of the information available at the time.

Sounds like this relationship deserves your efforts. Best of luck.

So. yeah.. I sent an email to the Welfare Unit yesterday enquiring about some counselling sessions. According to their intranet site they will pay for the first 6 sessions, so I just need to find out how to access them.

    Getting fixed, slowly. :o

but most of all EXERCISE. :j

I'd just like to second this again. Exercise helped focus my mind when my long term relationship broke up. I was already lower than I'd ever been, but I'm a stubborn !!!!!! and would never have gone to outside help. A few helpful mantras only ever said inside my head and caining the mountain bike until my legs gave up (and the exercise bike if that wasn't an option) and in a couple of months I was able to focus on other areas of my life which needed attention.

I still use it now, aside from keeping fit, I find I think clearer and with more focus after I've had a good gym session!

Well done Lee for taking that first step. I am sure things will begin to improve more now that you have had the courage to admit to your distressful feelings and seek help and support. Good luck.
