Change bedding-aim for weekly, but fortnightly is fine.
Defrost the freezer-when you're struggling to get the door shut.
Hoover-.we all have our own tolerances. I'd like mine done daily, but every other day is more realistic-and weekly for upstairs.
Wash windows-when they need doing. Or your mother's coming over.
Wash curtains-curtains wash?
Look, whatever the reason for your becoming a single parent suddenly, your kids need you. Don't worry too much about being the perfect housewife on top of everything else. Do what you can, do it a bit at a time...as long as nobody gets food poisoning you're winning. By all means have a go at flylady if you want-some people swear by it. However, I'm also a single working parent, and most of the flyladies aren't. It's completely unrealistic for me.import this0 -
Hi dad!
I think you are great! You have found yourself in this situation, and as you say have 2 great kids, who I am sure are very proud of you. Look at Gillys post - what you are about to create is some fun memories, even if there are some mistakes along the way! I dont have kids, nor a normal situation, I did grow up in a single parent house and loved to have the house clean when mum came home so she didnt have to do it and she appreciated my attempt even at 8!
I do spy on the flyladies and they seem an awesome bunch, dont be scared, no one is here to laugh at you, though they may laugh with you as you learn! ( I read mrbadexamples first attempts at cooking and giggled so much, but look at him now, he is a domestic god!)
I would agree with the advice here, talk to your kids, get them involved, they may even relish the sense of responsibility and growing up, and also doing things with you
best of luck in your new life, with the challenges it presents, and let us know the ups and downs, we all have them hun.

Editted to add I LOL at laurels post wicked sense of humour! I think Laurel has summed up what I wanted to say so will shut up now!I will pay jexygirl the compliment of saying that she invariably writes a lot of sense!0 -
Found a really nice wedding dress and it's not too expensive - will shop around though, as I want to try on lots of different styles in a proper bridal shop so that I can see what suits me.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170

do they make rubber screwdrivers? lol.. Mine was metal too..
you get ones with insulated handles that reduce the shock. I electrocuted myself on a light switch when I was pregnant too.
Congratulations Sexymouse, hope you have lots of fun planning it as well as the actual event. I love the dress - elegant and pretty. I got mine from Monsoon, they have some lovely ones too.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
I misread that and I thought you said Morrisons

Hopefully this time next year - the date we've been looking at for flying out is 5th April 2011.
I like Monsoon dresses too hex, but they don't seem to fit me properly, and are always way too long for me as well.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170 -
Hi I'm a single mum to five :eek:teenagers they are so much help , we have a list on the fridge that my son writes out every sunday evening with what is in the cupboards and fridge and as something is used or is running low it is put onto the shopping list ready for the next shop at beginning of the week freezer also has a inventury on its door .We have 5 sets of bedding each week to be washed my daughters and mine are same sort of colours so they get washed one day 2 of the boys have a black and white room so they get done together and other 2 boys have a football themed room so theirs get washed a different day each of us takes a task each day except if i'm having a bad time with my illness or someone is unwell and rotate them ,that way it is kept nice and tidy hoovering is done at night along with emptying bins so its nice and tidy when everyone gets up .Dishwasher is put on in evening and emptied before bed ,ready to start again in morning with breakie stuff , a load of washing is put on at night ready to be hung out in morning .But if it all doesn't get done it doesn't matter in my eyes tomorrow if always another day we just try to keep on top of it all for a semi easy life HTHPaul Walker , in my dreams;)0

The main Flylady site is confusing but it's actually blissfully simple when you decode it.
You have a quick blitz once a week doing the absolute essentials - hoover, empty waste bins, change sheets etc. This is not thorough cleaning it's just so it doesn't look obviously dirty. This should only take about an hour working at full pelt and is something your children should certainly be able to do
Every day you do the essentials for basic hygiene which means 'wet' cleaning AKA swish and swipe. That means swish a toilet brush round the loo and wipe the basin and the bath or shower so you don't get a build up of grunge. Again, this is not detailed cleaning, it's just so that it doesn't ever look and smell disgusting. Plus make sure the washing up is done and the kitchen worktops are wiped down then you need to spend 5 minutes each day to kill the piles of clutter that start small and breed eg unopened post or piles of newspapers.
You need to do a load of washing and drying each day to keep on top of the laundry. Flylady (and American sites generally) are not much into ironing but it does need doing. Little and often seems to be the best way but whatever you do make sure you get down to the bottom of the laundry basket otherwise there will be some things that simply never get seen again. I do a load of light coloured one day then dark the next, then towels then bedding. Depending how much laundry you have you may be able to fit in towels and bedding in the same week, if not then do it once a fortnight
Lastly pick a day to do the shopping then make sure you clean out the fridge the day BEFORE. That way you can know what you need to get and you've got room to put it away
That's it for the regular weekly work. Then you have a theme for each week and you spend 15 minutes a day on that theme. One week it will be the kitchen so you will do a bit of extra cleaning in there each day, next week it will be the living room etc. Things like curtain washing get scheduled in here when it's that room's turn
One thing I found confusing to start with is that before you can do your 15 minutes extra cleaning you have to have the rooms basically tidy. So if you are faced with a hell hole spend your 15 minutes sorting it out a little bit at a time and don't worry about cleaning - your one hour a week on the absolute basics will stop it deteriorating any further.
Flylady is actually a very good system once you have grasped how it all fits together but I do understand how it just seems impossible to get it straight in your mind when you first look at it.
I hope this helpsIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
Lovely news sexymouse
I'm getting married in August on our 18th Anniversary and I can't wait!
Honestly it's so,so exciting planning itAnd oh hen night/hen weekend - woop woop!
You'll have such a fab time getting married on a beach - it'll be lovely
Massive congrats
Jen xxEvening all,
Sorry I've been MIA - not much flying to report since my first couple of stars at the beginning of the week, apart from meal planning and food shopping, but I've been researching my wedding - finally after 8 years of being together!:j
I had always wanted to get married on a beach somewhere hot, because neither of us are religious or have big families, and I think we've finally settled on Jamaica.
We would be staying here (Sandals Negril Beach Resort & Spa) for 2 weeks, and our family would be staying here for the first week. I'm so excited! We haven't booked it yet, as we need to speak to my family yet, which I'm a bit worried about, as my Mum isn't 100% behind us getting married (she always pictured me with a doctor or something and thinks after 8 years, the wedding will never happen), but Moon likes the look of it, and having spent all evening looking at photos, it looks amazing.
Just seen the time - suppose I'd better go and put some dinner on and pack a lunch in case I get called for supply tomorrow.
sexymouse xxEverything happens for a reason0
