The best bribe to get kids to help more when you are single parent is to explian you will be able to spend more time with them if they can help you get chores done first. I'm sure they also wouldn't want to see you spending home time doing chores and missing out on time with them, they grow up too quick anyway! My daughter will help with stuff such as washing up, stipping bed, setting washing machine off if I sort out the load, and polishing. I admit I like to hoover myself, our dog moults constantly so like to make sure it is done properly daily.0

Don't do it - those flyladies are scary, see they have hunted you down and whatever you do DO NOT START MATCHING YOUR PEGS ON THE LINE that is the route to the end, wooden pegs are the way to go.
Seriously getting the kids to choose jobs is a great idea, I have one who will happily mow the lawn but hates hoovering and another who doesn't mind window cleaning. Mine all strip their own beds and depending on age remake. They tidy their rooms so I can quickly hoover and dust.
Daily half hour or wiping loos, sinks, worksurfaces, tidying up, emptying bins will keep things in order and make a big difference. The birds of sadness may fly overhead but don't let them nest in your hair0 -

I haven't read the rest of the advise so fogive me if your already sprted or i repeat anyhting .
My teenagers are 15 and 13 and they are responsible for doing the dishes every evening after dinner , keeping thier rooms tidy ( usually after i have told them to tidy them on a weekend) and changing thier own sheets ( again usually when I tell them too ).
I used to ( and am thinking of getting it going again) get everyone in the house to spend 30 minutes tidying and cleaning every evening the kids soon learnt what needed doing and what didn't and it kept everything tidy .
I try and put a load of laundry in every morning before I go out and then i can sort it out when i get in before I get dinner ready. Ironing usually happens if there is something i want to watch on the tv in the evening - i can do both at the same time .
and Flylady is great I gave it a go a while back and it helped me get routines in place and get into good habits .I am journeying to a debt-free life.
Our estimated debt-free date is January 2040. I'm on a mission to bring that date closer!

Hi there Dadoftwo. Do please come and join us on the weekly Flylady thread - I've found it a great help since I joined in with it in January, as I have to ration my energy, being disabled with an autoimmune illness.
If there's one piece of advice I'd give, it's to have a shopping list on the go at all times. I remember my mother used to sit down every Thursday night and write her weekly list - and she always forgot half of what was needed!
I have a system of when something gets used up, write it on the list straight away. Also, for non-perishables/cleaning things, I have "one on the go and one spare" and when the spare one gets started on, that gets put on the shopping list. Also have the girls write things on, if they notice that something's running low.
I hope I'm making sense - am recovering from a migraine just now, so probably not at my most coherent.:oIf your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
