What do Virgin do if you move to non-cable area?

Not from me,I'm going by experience as an Ex NTL/VM Engineer, however I have'nt commented on the contracts/penalties as it might've changed since I left.
Fair enough I think I misunderstood your post!
In this case best option is for me to ring Virgin and check and also check any contract with a fine toothcomb. I can't pay for something for a year unless we can get the full service... Only thing is I'm always a bit loath to trust what is said on the phone so would need to have it in writing that we won't charge if we move..
too many comps..not enough time!0 -

Actually it's non conflicting, if you move before 12 month are up and you go to a non cabled area you need to change to a ADSL service. All the psoters habe been post 12 months or moved to the ADSL service.
Standard contract law applies , sign up to a contract and you have to abide by the minimum terms or pay a penalty. If VM were to cut you off because they can't supply you TV any longer they'd have to pay you top cancle the contract. Contracts exist to protect both parties.
It's on VM's web page
http://help.virginmedia.com/system/selfservice.controller?CONFIGURATION=1002&PARTITION_ID=1&TIMEZONE_OFFSET=null&USERTYPE=0&VM_CUSTOMER_TYPE=Cable&CMD=VIEW_ARTICLE&ARTICLE_ID=110874
If you decide not to take your services with you, that's fine, you'll just need to pay off the monthly payments to the end of your contract.0 -

No you're right I was reading the posts before wrong. I can't see the bit on that link though that says about mobing to a non cable area, just if you decide not take the service with you, which is not strictly true I don't think.
There is quite a bit of info though on moving to a National area where you get Virgin services through a phoneline instead, so I wonder if they would want you to do that. I need to investigate that a bit more because I'd not heard of that before, when we were with Virgin previously it was cable or nothing.

Virgin do ADSL broadband to everywhere, just like BT, TalkTalk, o2, Orange etc. I suppose it depends when you were with them before.
Thats whay they mean by moving to a non cabled area, you still have to see out 12 months with them. If you choose move to a non cabled area you have to take the ADSL service (as was mentioned earlier by Passthewine) and you still have to see out the 12 months. If you choose not to they charge you the leaving fee. Virgin ADSL is £21.99 minimum a month, so not that competative, but not abysmal.0 -
if you move the you can avoid Early Disconnection Fees by taking up adsl bb & telephone with them at your new address (as has already been mentioned). This will put you into another 12 month contract.
you would still be under contract for the tv so in theory you would have to pay of remainder of contract.
the best way to get around this is to call the disconnections team and ask the to put your TV onto M (no m+) the m package is free.
a couple of days after that call them up and say you want to cancel TV.
As you are now on the free TV there will not be any Early Disconnection Fee's.0 -

Maybe.
Your right in the assumption that your on free tv, but you may not be allowed to step down packages until 12 months is up.
VM will have given you some bonus (free installation, x months free, free movies etc) to get you to sign up, the will want their pound of flesh before releasing you from your contract. You may not be able to go to M level TV until the 12 months are up.0 -

tbh I haven't made any assumptions, I have only discussed fact
i used to work for virgin media and I have worked in most departments, including retentions, and this does work in this way. I've seen it a number of times.
Obviously its not something that Virgin would advertise and they may change policy if to lots of ppl start doing this.
You can go down to M tv whenever you like - you may need to go through to retentions in order to get this done though.0 -

Fair enough. I know when I asked I was told I had to keep the package I subscribed to for 12 months before I could change any of it. (this was about 8-9 months ago)0 -

Virgin have always offered a ADSL based internet service, both Dial up or BBand. When you took out cable it was more likely with the Lagacy Cable companies (CableTel/Birmingham Cable ect) or TeleWest or NTL (Who bought up most of the Legacy companies) which then both merged to become NTL TeleWest & were then in turn bought over by Virgin Media.
It's just now most people hear Virgin Media & automatically think 'Cable'.0 -

Yep I think it was NTL and Virgin took over whilst we were with them, we did have TV too and got the broadband through the set top box.
