Still struggling to list my old book. It's listed on Amazon.com, but not Uk site. However they haven't actually got one for sale in the US, so I may have the only one in the world! Seriously, as a pro-merchant how do I go about listing a new entry to the catalogue? Anyone know?

    Hi Daisy

I don't know how you can get a new entry added to the Amazon catalogue.

You could list your book on the Amazon z-shops, but based on what I have read on the Amazon discussion boards, items are rarely sold from there. This is the link that tells you all about z-shops and other links from the page will show you how to list. http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/tg/browse/-/3149121/ref=br_ldr/202-9632378-2627849

Another alternative could be to email the details to an auction house such as Bloomsbury http://www.bloomsburyauctions.com/index They will be able to give you a very rough value and tell you if it is worth auctioning.

They did auction a book for me once - it was quite exciting, although with hindsight I might possibly have made more if I'd used ebay. At least there was less hassle using Bloomsbury's and they sent a cheque at the end of the auction.

I had a vague recollection of a similar discussion on the Amazon Discussion Boards, so I did a search to try and find an answer for you and came up with the following thread:

    http://forums.prosperotechnologies.com/n/mb/message.asp?webtag=am-Uksllconnect&msg=4809.1

It does look like it's a no-go, as far as adding to the standard catalogue (although you could try phoning customer services Amazon Tel 0800 279 6620).

Let us know how you get on, you may have found one of the 'little gems' we all hope for.

Has there been any sign of Amazon increasing postage costs when the new charges come in next month?

Cazmeg - just had a look on amazon's help pages and can't find anything about them changing their prices, but I assume they probably will, if it costs them more to send books, on average, then their postage rates should go up and therefore the marketplace rates would also go up - although that is a total guess.

I have a question...I know that some of the people on this board sell on amazon and perhaps ebay as a a self-employed hobby/job and therefore are liable for tax, I wondered what you all do about the receipt problem in regards to boot sales. Since I buy a lot of my stock from bootsales with no receipts I don't know how I can claim the tax back on my stock? Is there a non-embarassing way around this as I really don't want to hand over a receipt page to every person I buy a book from and ask them to sign - it just doesn't happen at bootsales, and I am sure it would increase their prices. Is there a way around this?

    Thanks

Oh yeah I received that barcode scanner that FFM recommended and it is excellent - really speeds things up even more - its totally fab and does actually take you to the exact right page.

I don't know if I have done this right (never tried to post a link to one particular post before...) but if it doesn't work, it is in the last Amazon thread (no 5), post no 846 by FFM. I believe the price has also gone down too since he mentioned it to about £54
