well the netbook is truly portable unlike notebooks and has a decent battery life unlike notebooks so that's what it brings to the game, we actually walk about with ours and use them just like a paperback, and unlike the imaxipad its not limited to a highly gimped OS

By "highly gimped OS", you of course mean an OS that was designed for the device.

Sorry, I don't see that as being a particular disadvantage.
as to what device brings the same function as the imaxipad, that would be the iphone except of course the iphone is portable and fits in your pocket, the point is it is 100% technically possible to make the imaxipad run a full OS at no extra cost

Of course it's technically possible, but it would suck. That's why tablet PCs have traditionally sucked. Apple are in a position where they can design the OS and the hardware, and they took the opportunity to avoid the problem other tablet PCs have.
why would i want a usb port? well lets see so i can transfer files to and from it without going through the abortional itunes and not having them locked to one computer and not transferable from the device, not every one uses highly gimped macs, we are used to flexibility

I'm really not sure why Macs are "highly gimped", but the solution is simple: if you don't want to use it, don't buy it. There's no point crying about it.
why cant it, its got the screen, the memory and the disk space, if netbooks can do it why cant the imaxipad?

Because it's not a netbook, laptop, or desktop.

If you really want to understand where I'm coming from, get some hands on time with a tablet PC running Windows, then get back to me.

The iPad will seem like the model of simplicity and user-friendliness that it is.
Apple had the opportunity to really bring out a revolutionary piece of kit it could have changed tech for ever they took the easy option and brought out a giant iphone (with no phone) thats no where near as portable, and we all know why the real imaxipad will be out in 3 or 4 more versions so they can cash in on the upgrades just like the iphone.

Of course the iPad is revolutionary. Firstly, it's the first tablet device in history that's actually pleasant to use. That right there tells you that Apple know what they're talking about, and all the naysayers who complain it doesn't have any PCIe slots, do not.

Secondly, the future of computing will resemble the iPad much more than it will resemble the computer you're sitting in front of. Computers have moved on a lot, but their simplicity (or lack thereof) and how user friendly they are leaves something to be desired. Someone with no prior computing experience using an iPad for the first time is up and running in minutes; the same can't be said for someone using a "full OS".

More features does not a better product make.

And I really don't get why Apple get all this negativity for upgrading their products on a semi-regular basis. Do you know how many new models Dell or HP introduce in a year?

I wouldn't say that, a few niche businesses have been running tablets with besoke software ware which is totally pleasent to use.

Personally id argue the iphone was the first tablet to to be pleasent to use in a comsumer space, even then its just an evolution of something else.

Big western companies dont do revolutionary in the comsumer space, its NOT a good business model for actually making money. Apple esp have realised this since the ipod.
People just dont like big changes, they want small changes and more polish.

ps I dont think tablets are the future of computing, as a form factor its horrible to use in a desktop enviroment, irrespective of the user interface, its more useful as an extention of existing computing power eg as a super HID or going back to the PAN idea

I don't mean tablets specifically are the future of computing, I mean operating systems like the iPhone OS are.

Nope. It says a lot about Apple though that even people who don't like their products can't stop talking about them.

Id disagree on the pure basis that every man and is dog is against proprietary closed sourced systems (to franky irrational levels) atm.

As someone once said (probably me) "Hate is an attractive force", its been going on the since the dawn of time, Apple isn't special.

I didn't say we'd all be using the iPhone OS on our computers. But the future is almost certainly iPhone OS shaped. Totally simple, easy to use and intuitive.

Even tho some people don't see where this type of device fits into the market place, looks like a LOT of manufacturers do!
