stumbled upon rumours of a mini ipad being launched in 2011

You'd think people would realise now to wait until the 2nd or 3rd generation device. Very few manufacturers get anything spot on 1st time. Saw someone holding one at starbucks in westfield, derby on saturday. From a distance, they looked like a hobbit holding an iphone, but when sat next to them the device did look pretty cool, although they seemed to have difficulty getting a comfy position to type, view, and hold their drink at the same time.0

What is the point of it and who are Apple targeting with it?
Typical Apple, leave out lots of things you would expect on the 'laptop killer' and then in a years time get people to buy an even more expensive version. Anyone remember what they did with the iPhone? Release a phone then not long after put video capture on it but we will make people buy a brand new handset for it where we could of released an OS update over the air (Palm did just that) and now they are hacking their own OS to give what they call 'multitasking' but what they fail to say is that it will cost you more for the apps. Apples idea of multitasking is a joke compared to others and even more so Palms idea of multitasking.0 -
To some of the earlier posters - yes, this is a moneysaving site. Not a site for not spending money, but for saving it when you do spend it. So it's not about buying a Fiesta when you want a Ferrari, it's about getting the best deal possible on the Ferrari, if you can afford to run it of course!0

Apple to fix malfunctioning iPad customers
Malfunctioning iPad customers are to be 'fixed', Apple confirmed last night.
The release of the game-changing screen with buttons earlier this week saw Apple shops flooded with thousands of over-excited, middle-aged media professionals looking slightly odd in their Converse baseball shoes.
However the company has admitted that many iPad buyers have experienced a mental bug which has caused them to question whether the machine works as perfectly as it obviously does. Apple is now offering an offline 'fix' for the problem where owners hand themselves in for psychological reconditioning and massive electric shocks.
A spokesman said: "It's a simple mental readjustment to make users more compatible with their iPads. Through a combination of shouting and targeted electricity we are able to erase the creeping sense that they've been duped by their own pathetic desire to be cool into buying something that doesn't really work."
Reconditioned iPad owner Tom Logan said: "My iPad works perfectly, it's simply that the rest of the universe, specifically the internet and my hotmail, has yet to fall into sync with its utter perfection."poppy100 -

What is the point of the television, surely a radio would entertain just as well? What is the point of a games console, surely people could use pen and paper or read fantasy book? What is the point of a laptop or netbook, surely you could sit at a table? What is the point of Facebook, do all your friends really need constant status updates? What is the point of a handheld games console, surely you could wait until you got home? What is the point of the motorcar, can't you walk/ cycle/ bus/ train to work?
Apple are attempting to target a wide market with the iPad, how successful that is remains to be seen. I could imagine my sixty-something mother using one - we bought her first netbook a year ago but she still finds computing completely bewildering.
My thirty-something brother has every intention of buying an iPad, he already has a Mac and an iPhone and has the income to spend on new toys.
I certainly think the product would be ideal for children to replace a netbook and handheld games console. Is it suitable for business users, will it replace laptops or netbooks? Of course not until it becomes far more powerful, capable of storing files etc. but this is its first incarnation.nsabournemouth wrote: »Typical Apple, leave out lots of things you would expect on the 'laptop killer' and then in a years time get people to buy an even more expensive version. Apple are releasing ONE new handset per year at present, how many do HTC and Nokia crank out with a 'new' must have function?
This is a business not a charity, if Apple wait until they have made an all-singing-all-dancing smartphone or tablet they would go bust! Multitasking doesn't automatically mean higher cost to the end user, there are 185,000 apps on iTunes of which a huge number are completely FREE. Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -

unfortunately your argument fails, every single thing you mention offers some thing new to the game and there fore has some additional use
the ipad brings nothing new except apples ability to bleed geeks of cash and thats not new
