I would likely use "I tested" or something similar. To me, got my hands on something means in possession of. You are of course correct on the differing interpretations and thank you for recognising the "evidence" in the OP's photographs suggesting "possession". I'm not going to debate semantics, but suffice to say my interpretation was different and even wrong when compared to other people's interpretations. The OP did not state that he had bought one. The OP stated that he had "now got (his) hands on" one.
I have "got my hands on" many devices at Apple Stores that I had no interest in buying; I just wanted to try them out. That's what they're there for.
I've also "got my hands on" many other devices owned by friends (and in other stores) to try them out. And I'll grant you that the photographs suggest a domestic environment.
Does that mean your experience with the device is positive, the build and form factor being the negative which makes you reject the device?Eric_Pisch wrote: »I realise the borders are for hanging on to, but i still believe if they reduced the size by a 50mm both ways, halved the thickness (its very thick) and halved the weight it would do what they have set out to achieve 100 times better. I would actually get one then. At the moment is bigger and heavier than decent netbook (especially in its case) and does a lot less.0 -

I think they could have something here, make it smaller and lighter say 7" max, give it multi tasking and flash (for farmville, cafe world etc)
and it makes a lot more sense to me
as it stands its as big and as heavy as a netbook with 1/100th of the functionality0 -
Brenda do you not have anything better to do than nit-pick peoples use of language?
You have not made one single post in this thread that is on-topic, which, just to remind you, is about the iPad.0 -
Eric_Pisch wrote: »unfortunately your argument fails, every single thing you mention offers some thing new to the game and there fore has some additional use
the ipad brings nothing new except apples ability to bleed geeks of cash and thats not new
What then, does a netbook bring to the table that's new?
The answer of course, is absolutely nothing.
But to hear some people talk, you'd think touchscreen tablet devices running a custom OS that is easy to use and does what it's designed to do very very well, were ten a penny.
Where are all these amazing devices that already do what the iPad does?
I've never seen one. Every single tablet device I've ever used has been, without exception, absolutely awful.
I guess I must be missing something. I know that no one here is moronic enough to think the iPad is supposed to duplicate the functionality of a laptop computer.
I mean, everything a laptop can do, my desktop can do better. My desktop is even portable. Are we to conclude from this that laptops are pointless devices?
Of course not. They're just different.
So, instead of complaining incessantly about what the iPad doesn't do (and really, what are you going to do with a USB port on one? Put a printer in the bathroom so you can print while having a poo?), perhaps people would be better served by looking at what it actually does.0 -
What, then, is your comprehension (or your "interpretation") of the phrase "getting hands-on experience" with something such as an electron microscope, a battle tank or a multi-million pound professional flight simulator?
Owning one?
Your point might have some validity had the OP said he got some hands on experience with the iPad.
Unfortunately, he didn't.0 -

well the netbook is truly portable unlike notebooks and has a decent battery life unlike notebooks so that's what it brings to the game, we actually walk about with ours and use them just like a paperback, and unlike the imaxipad its not limited to a highly gimped OS
as to what device brings the same function as the imaxipad, that would be the iphone except of course the iphone is portable and fits in your pocket, the point is it is 100% technically possible to make the imaxipad run a full OS at no extra cost
why would i want a usb port? well lets see so i can transfer files to and from it without going through the abortional itunes and not having them locked to one computer and not transferable from the device, not every one uses highly gimped macs, we are used to flexibility
I guess I must be missing something. I know that no one here is moronic enough to think the iPad is supposed to duplicate the functionality of a laptop computer.
why cant it, its got the screen, the memory and the disk space, if netbooks can do it why cant the imaxipad?
Apple had the opportunity to really bring out a revolutionary piece of kit it could have changed tech for ever, they took the easy option and brought out a giant iphone (with no phone) thats no where near as portable, and we all know why the real imaxipad will be out in 3 or 4 more versions so they can cash in on the upgrades just like the iphone.0 -

my bad, i own an iphone but i dont own a touch i have a ipod classic so i use the term iphone to generically mean iphone/itouch
I stand by what i said thou the imaxipad could have been as important as the WYSWIG OS or the mouse, it may well become so after appl have milked it for a few years.0 -
Wet/Sticky fingers + touchscreen... oh oh...Personally, I could imagine that this device, with its virtual keyboard behind a glass screen, would be a handy thing to have in the kitchen, where wet and sticky hands do no good at all to a conventional keyboard.
Shame they never took the opportunity to add something more funky like this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/sci_tech/2000/dot_life/2326077.stm
Then you could have typed on your iPad without touching it, freeing up keyboard real estate and allowing the use of 'messy fingers'
Out of interest, has anyone found any good reasons for owning this that might justify the price tag?0 -
iPad's European release has been delayed for a month due to the widespread WiFi connection problems plaguing US versionspoppy100
