I noticed the other day that Readycell AA and AAA alkaline batteries from Home Bargains now have 8 in a pack instead of 10. That's a 20% price rise.

    Actually, it's 25%,
  • McCoys multipack crisps used to have 32g bags, now 30g bags. Asda had them at £1.00 per multipack 2 weeks ago which was reasonable, but last saturday they were back at 2 multipacks for £3.00...
Another Asda one, Asda's own pasta sauce jars used to be 540g for £1 now 500g for £1.

McVities chocolate digestives are a love of mine with a cuppa. I always open the pack and they then fit nicely in a clip top container I have.

A new pack used to fit in perfectly and last week I noticed that I had loads of room when I put one in. Looked at weight and it had gone down from aroound 400 g to 332 grams

Weetabix! When I was at school, 2 would fill the bottom of a large-sized bowl. I bought some a few days ago, 3 barely filled a small bowl and I was still hungry afterwards. They're not only narrower but thinner as well. Reminds me of the cheap Lidl version I used to buy at uni. IMO not worth buying Weetabix brand anymore, they're just as small as the value brands!

Potatoes at sainsburys. Last year you could get 1kg of mashing potatoes for £1, now the cheapest mashing potatoes are £1.50 for a 1 kg bag. 50% price increase!

Potato prices are always at the mercy of growing conditions.

I believe I am correct in saying last year was poor so it follows come harvest this year the prices will go up.

Just buy the Basics ones. They're £1.19 for 2.5 kilo. They might look grotty but who cares if you're going to peel them.

Walls Carte D'or ice cream used to be in 1 Litre tubs, but it's now 900ml. It's on offer at Mr T just now (£1.72) and I only ever buy it when it's on offer, but didn't realise it had shrunk until I got to the checkout  (still bought it though - would have been rude not to :))

For some years, I've been buying Sainsbury's own-brand ground coffee (continental roast, excellent taste). I suspect they've recently shrunk the pack but not the price (a familiar trick of the supermarkets) - can anyone confirm this ?
    It's only rock 'n' roll ...
