  • The shrinking contents thing is nothing new. All the big SM's and branded makes are doing just that. Sainsbury red lable at one time I could get two mugs out of one bag, now I am lucky to get one. A good one is choc ices - 3 years back 10 4 a £1 now it is 8 4 a £1

Washing powder was the first one I noticed years ago with less washes for your money. My post was included in Martin's newsletter - proud moment:)

Most are quite visible like 900ml instead of a litre and 700g instead of 800g but with tea bags I don't think it says how much tea is in each bag so you won't notice, you would only notice if there were less actual tea bags!

I noticed this a long time ago with the co-op tea bags, they are my little luxury lol
They haven't been too bad lately so not sure if thry tried to shrink them and people complained so they reverted.

Agree about the Red Label. It's really difficult. We changed to Red Label from Yorkshire Tea as it was getting very dusty.

There's a whole thread on this board about 'shrinking' foods.

I say 8 times out of 10, when a company changes their design on the packaging, they normally reduce the size!

Take the latest Doritos for a moment. Mullerlight also did the same when they reduced their pots.

If you see two designs in the shop at the same time, look at both.
    You are indeed correct.

Birds Eye Rice Fusions in the old green packaging weigh 400g but the new yellow Rice Fusion packaging now weighs 380g.

And they have the cheek to proclaim '2 Generous Portions' on the front of the packet.

I'm a regular shopper at Morrisons and was dismayed to discover today that a significant proportion of their produce have had their packaging (and contents) downsized.

From toilet paper to cheesecake it seems a shift in strategy for the supermarket chain has taken place.

Even with fresh produce I was talking to myself when I saw lemons and limes the size of golf balls and even onions were being sold at golf ball size.

The beauty of living in a democracy, there is food on shelves and you have a choice where to buy. As the world becomes a bigger trading market then growth in up coming countries means wealth, the tens of millions of new customers are quite happy to pay a premium for the best product.
The scraps that are left are sent to Northern Europe, get used to it or be happy to spend 3 times the price for bigger packs and sizes.
