  • I found here a nice article to save more money . I hope it can help ! I'm not allowed yet to publish any link but if you go to my home page you can find this interesting article,
    While you shop
    • When your food budget allows, buy extra lowcost, nutritious foods like potatoes and frozen orange juice concentrate. These foods keep well
    • Compare the cost of convenience foods with the same foods made from scratch. “Convenience foods” are products like fancy baked goods, frozen meals, and vegetables with seasonings and sauces.
Most of these cost more than similar foods prepared at home. Also, you can use less fat, sugar, and salt in food you make at home.

I took two packets of Asda Irish minced beef out of the freezer today. The older packet was for 500grams the newest packet was only fopr 300grams.

Just noticed that the 150g boxes of Smarties that Poundland and 99p Store used to sell are now 120g boxes (but the exact same design). It's far better value to get a 150g tube of (Smarties under a different name) Lentilky!
  • There is one more thing that I noticed. Bigger packs used to be cheaper (per unit weight) than smaller packs but this is now changing for some products. They know some people would automatically grab a bigger pack without even checking the unit price. So, make sure you check the unit price first!

Copella obviously not selling very well right now. The 1.25l bottles are on offer online at Sainsbury for £1.35

That is a really good point. When I was online shopping last week it amazed me how many multipack crisps were much cheaper to buy 2x6 packs than 1x12 pack.

I noticed in Asda today that 2 big bottles of Tango were £1.50 which on the face of it looks like an amazing deal until you realise that the bottles are 1.5 litres and not 2 litres.

In my post on 15 April I highlighted Tesco were now selling Bernard Matthews Turkey Ham in 170g packs where previously they had been 200g and the price remained the same at £1.49.
But someone at Tesco must be reading these posts because the following week they had put the price of the 170g pack down to £1.00.
So keep naming and shaming because it hurts the offenders and hopefully consumer power will win out in the end.

on a similar subject (I have noticed things reducing but no examples come to mind) I have always checked and compared prices when I've shopped.

It used to be (as a general rule) that a bigger pack was better value than a smaller pack - and I think most people got used to this.

But I have noticed in the last few years that this is no longer the case and often it is better value to buy 2 smaller sized items, than the larger one. Very cheeky!

They are taking advantage of previously learned consumer behaviour and assuming we'll just trust them & not relearn!

We've always had that with our milk at Iceland. It's recently got up to £1.10 for a 4 pinter, was £1. But the larger 6 pint one is £2.25! So actually you can get 8 pints for less then it costs to get 6 pints, yet people still do it.

I even pointed it out to a customer and they said "well the bigger one is a good size for me" and I said "well you could always buy two 4 pint bottles and pour 2 pints down the sink, still saving 25p(when they were £1).":rotfl:
