Hi all i have been given a Lidl Bifinett KH2231 bread maker i have tried 6 times to bake bread i followed all the of the recipes to the letter and still the bread is rubbish I am about to though it in the bin but what i would like to know is can i use plain white flour instead of strong white flour.0

Hi david, I wouldn't use plain flour - bread flour is called "strong" because it has more gluten in it and makes an elastic enough dough to help the bread to rise. Plain flour just wouldn't rise in the same way.
I'm not sure if this has already been recommended, but I add a crushed vitamin C tablet to my breadmaker recipes. It makes the bread rise better.
I have a Morphy Richards fastbake, I use the manual's recipe for 'softgrain bread' but use half a cup of oatbran substituted for half a cup of flour, and pumpkin seeds/mixed seeds instead of wholegrains.
I always leave out the dried skimmed milk and the oil that the recipes call for too.
I usually get really nice loaves but sometimes when I've tried to use too much oatbran they come out very solid (think housebricks!)I believe in the freedom of spinach and the right to arm bears.

Try out the Lidl breadmixes. They are £1.18 atm (used to be £0.99, then £1.29) for 1kg, which will give you two loaves. Just add water and that's it. I love the wholemeal mix and that's the only one I buy for years now...
At the beginning I tried out a few recipes and they never turned out as good.
Recently I tried out the Lidl strong bread flour and followed a basic recipe. It went quite ok, but I like my bread darker. If I would start buying brown bread flour I would spend maybe the same as I spend on the ready mix. So I abandoned the idea...

Oats/oatbran do make bread more solid, so you could maybe experiment with the amount you use.
There's a thread about vitamin C in breadmaking:
