Help needed .... video files need converting...i think :s

I've used Windows DVD Maker in Vista and the DVDs worked perfectly on my player. It seems to convert most files into DVD format and then burns the disc.
I agree that it is slow, though, so it's best done when you don't want to use the computer for anything else.0 -
Why did you convert them to avi files?0
-
thats the only file that i thought play on dvd
Do they not??0 -
Well I'm not that techy so might not be right or explain it well.
But although some DVD players can read other formats such as avi, in order to ensure it will play on any DVD player the files need to be authored in DVD format.
A program such as Windows DVD Maker will do this for you, just load your files into it, you can customise it so you can link to each separate video as a chapter etc then it will burn a playable DVD for you.
The program you downloaded may also convert files to DVD format but I'm not sure.0 -
Thats what i thought, that the program iv downloaded would have an option to burn the files to dvd too, but that doesnt seem to be the case as i dont see an option of that anywhere
Do you have a link for Windows Movie Player??0 -
I meant Windows DVD maker, if your using Windows Vista or Windows 7, it comes installed.
I think Windows Movie Maker will do the samr thing in XP, although I'm not sure.0 -
I've just been playing about with DVD Flick suggested above and its a fantastic program, far better than anything Windows has to offer.
Maybe give it another shot using the files you converted to avi, although I loaded in multiple files including mpgs. Just click "add title" and select the videos you wish to use.
It creates a DVD folder ready to burn to disk with any suitable program, I use Ashampoos Burning Studio, the free version. Its fast and has never let me down.0 -
Ok, i tried with dvd flick, everything was fine, until it was time to finalize. It done about 10% of it and then it said burn failed....this is what happens all the time
Reason given : incompatible format - cannot write medium.
