Has anyone taken Orlistat for weight loss?

All just sounds like a rehash of "olestra" to me.

Have a read about people who ate products cooked in it :eek:

How much do these tabs cost? Reason I am asking is would doing Lipotrim be a better option? It's £36 per week and you do not have to buy any food, as it's a total meal replacement plan. With excellent results. May be your better option?

The problem with meal replacements is that they don't teach you how to monitor your intake of regular food, and they don't make you notice what your regular diet actually contains. So you stop having the replacements when you're at your target weight, and proceed to yo-yo.

Those meal replacement diets are grim! I did cambridge, it was a nightmare, can't even drink diet coke!! I lost about a stone on it before I went back to food (but then lost loads of weight the proper way!) I still have 2 weeks worth of cambridge shakes in my cupboard that have probably expired. £70 down the pan! They taste like poop too!

Can anyone tell me what your BMI needs to be to be prescribed it by your GP?

When orlistat is prescribed

Doctors are expected to follow guidelines when prescribing orlistat. These include:

• Your BMI (Body Mass Index - see below)
  • must be 30 or above, or
  • must be 28 or above, and you have a medical condition that would benefit from losing weight (such as diabetes or high blood pressure).
• You must lose at least 5% of your weight by three months from starting orlistat, and at least 10% of your weight by six months. If not, the orlistat should not be continued to be prescribed.
• You must be between the ages of 18 and 75 years.

I had these and they did nothing for me! i could eat what i wanted and never went to the loo, prob helped by the fact im always constipated with IBS, i am shockingly over weight and i just cant get my head into the right place to diet even though i need to

You can get Alli without prescription if you have a BMI of 28 or over.
