I am crying right now. A tank costs me approx £46 and I cover LESS than 300 miles on that. What car do you have if you don't mind me asking?

On a side note, does anyone know what the most economical small hatchback is - I've heard the VW Polo is very good?

    Moped ??

I thought the use of air conditioning didn't generally affect fuel consumption?

It does, it is an additional drain on engine output.

I had thought the electric car was the future, until Mitsubishi announced the £38,699 price tag. I am still waiting for somebody to say April Fools!, but it's for real.

So it looks like a steam engine car running on wood soon.

Electric cars are not the future, they are not environmentally friendly. All they do is move the pollution to the power plant. Its amazing how many people don't get this. And they are not practical. Imagine running out of battery power on a long journey and facing a 6 hour charge before you can carry on!

Just carry a spare battery, duh!

Works for my mobile phone, so why not my car?

This is a petrol price thread, and the reason for going electric is how many miles for £1 of electricity (100 miles?) vs. how many miles for £1 of diesel (8 miles?).

The equation falls apart because the damned car costs £38,699(-£5,000 subsidy). Sounds like they simply added £5,000 to the price they wanted to charge in the first place.:(

You fail to spot that not all methods of generating electricity cause pollution.

For one, if a Political Party said they would, if elected, ban garages from charging decimal parts of a penny, they'd get my vote!
