Positive Mental Attitude

following on from my positive mental attitude post yesterday..i wondered what you guys are doing to improve your attitudes towards money and life in general.

i listen to tapes that are motivational and inspire me to pay off my debts and create a financially secure future. i have a life plan and can visualise what i would like my future to be even thirty years from now....i have this thought in my head so often that i can picture the scene perfectly.

i have short/medium and long term goals some being more achieveable than others and some needing quite a few steps to reach.

keeping in control of my finances is of utmost importance to me as this is the foundation on which many of my goals are placed, however, i am no longer obssesive about every penny as the budget is so well organised it practically runs itself. i am also aware that if i start buying takeaways and stuff i really dont need then my budget is going to go off course. nowadays i am more concerned with what my money will be doing after my dfd.

i am really concerned with my impact on this planets resources and try and live my life to show i respect this. i try and instill worthwhile values in my children, teaching them that we dont have to have "everything" to be happy, try and encourage them to save money and recycle and think about how they treat their things and the planet and other people.

over the last six months or so i have become increasingly aware of what is and isnt important to me. i try and live each day to learn new stuff, find new things to enjoy and of course, progress and improve the quality of my life. I find that the more i learn the more i want to learn.

lately i have been redecorating my bedroom, so far just a tin of paint, a new lamp and a couple of cushions. i decluttered my room and have got rid of/recycled/given to charity, things that really didnt hold any value to me. i have learnt to appreciate the less is more approach. this now means my bedroom is a santuary, a haven, somewhere for me to relax and chill out after the stresses of the day, light loads of candles and have some quality time with my thoughts.

all these positive things keep me on the road to financial freedom and even better than that, im continually inspired to do even more as i ditch the old ways and embrace the new!

so....what do you do?

    Hi JD,
Wow, you're really bringing lots of positivity to the site this morning. Love your posts..

Well I went through a really stressful period about 4 years ago and as a result I had a good look at how I was living my life. I read mind, body and spirit books constantly and I took up yoga and meditation. So I guess I was trying to find myself again..

I also have a room in our flat that I retire to that I call my sanctuary. I meditate in there twice a day, roll out my yoga mat, burn candles, incence and I have pictures of inspirational gurus and small buddhas etc....

I also have long and short term goals and am working towards them as best I can. I listen to A. Robbins in the car and every week I try and read some inspirational book.

When I look at the person I was 4 years ago and compare it to how I am now it's like night and day. I'm so much calmer and I don't really get stressed anymore.

I guess it's about accepting change and growing up!

I made a positive decision when my OH was made redundant and we had a lot of other very stressful things going on in our lives at the same time that I would try to keep some perspective on things. Yes it was rough at times but I would pull myself up short when I was overexaggerating things and ask myself if anyone would die as a result of what was going on or if whatever I was fussing over would matter in 5 years time. If the answer was no to either or both of them then I took a reality check. I have also ensured that I put energy into the relationships that matter to me....I no longer spend my precious free time with people who aren't in my inner santum. Sometimes that means sticking out my neck and going against the grain but you only get one chance at this and I've already spent enough of my time compromising it to fit in with others. Consequently I may have much less materially but I am all round a lot happier.
When I do get het up I use the wisdom of the 12th century St Julian of Norwich "All shall be well and all shall be well and all manner of things shall be well"
I'm not in debt myself but I always pop in here after the OS board [although I rarely post here] which is my main hangout because I'm always amazed at the support everyone offers. The two boards quite restore my faith in humanity!

I have only recently realised that something is missing in my life. It's the down time that I have that bores me, (other than coming on here). I work shifts, and my OH does a lot of late nights, so sometimes I can have 10 hours to myself and have been looking for ways to fill the time.

I have been thinking about what I can do in my spare time. Thoughts of part time work, learning Spanish, doing yoga, etc. But I can't get into a frame of mind to go and do it.

Your inspirational posts are motivating me, JD, to go and do things. I have sort of started the bbc spanish online courses, but lack motivation to keep going. But I will gve it another try.

I was at school recently, and one of the little girls was upset by another little girl.

She sat down in the middle of the field and immediately started meditating. When I asked her what she was doing, she said she was meditating as she needed to calm down.

Sounded so funny coming from a 5 year old :rotfl: :rotfl:

JD, meditation is the most amazing thing... I practice transcendental meditation and felt it's benefits almost immediately.

To have a technique that you can tap into every day is great! All the stresses of the day are wiped out if you like when you go within for 20 minutes..

In fact, I'm away to do it now....................bliss!!!!!

Another great post, whoever has told ya that meditation is cool is spot on :)

I think keeping the mind active is very important, whether that be through learning, conversation, or even activities that require some brain power.

I also think people lack any sort of spirituality (and i dont mean christianity - bleugh (my opinion only)) i think if more people decided to say lets be nice for a change, rather than hanging round bus stations looking for fights - I live in Rotherham remember, then the world might have a chance.

I think a lot of people, including myself, also hide behind there problems with beer or other addictions, im making a start with combatting those.

Also, someone posted that writing down goals is important, i agree, write down 1 positive thing you are going to do that day, even if its only paying off some debt, or going for a walk, then do it.

Youll be surprised how easy it is to do if you motivate yourself that way.

Another thing is dont put of boring chores, its awful, but thew quicker you do it, it is done, gone from the brain, no more need to think about it.

that reminds me, I need to sort out the dump I call a room

spud 30 - that sounds great, if all the youngsters did that, we would be raising a generation of calmer more tolerant people

Little L - sounds wonderful, you enjoy yourself!

kevicho - my positive thing for today is to read a story to each of my babes before they go to bed! a nice bit of mummy time for them all individually and a good feeling for me!

Exactly. I never thought I would be given advice like that from a 5 year old.

I asked her how she knows about meditating, does her mummy do it, but she said no. She just does it to calm down. :T
