Just wondering if anyone has any ideas as to how we could stabilise it a bit? Had though of leaning something against the wall so that it couldnt swing either way but then the danger is if it fell it would send the bottom half or maybe all the nest flying. The problem is that when the wind gets up a bit, the bottom of the windchime can swing either way by as much as an inch or more.

I had thought of getting two big blobs of white tack and sticking either side of the bottom on the wall (wall is slightly textured so should stick ok). That way if the wind did blow it should stop the bottom swaying. Not sure if you can tell from the pics but the windchime does actually touch against the wall so its not totally swinging free (thankfully).

Hubby seems to think he heard two of them singing down the garden earlier. So wether that means the female is around if so i dont know. Getting exciting now.

Took this pic off the t.v. using my phone. Dont he look cute!!
Have two good pics on my camera too but for some reason my memory card in the phone is not being recognised by the pc anymore. Little bit annoyed as the camera catches a quicker pic than my phone so may miss out on some good pics.

Thanks. Made me smile that comment :)

Had bit of a panic at 5am this morning tho!!!! My daughter was up and ready for work and came in my bedroom and woke me saying 'Mum, mum, theres a horrible noise coming from out the back, i hope a cat hasnt got that bird'. I shot straight up, thinking please no, went downstairs, dog followed me and went out the back.

It was still rather dark and i couldnt see or hear anything but the dog went mad sniffing the whole garden like he had picked up a scent (hes a spaniel and they known for good sniffers). I then heard something over the neighbours garden not sure what tho. Then there was a bit of a crash noise or like something had fell. My daughter had left for work and i was a bit scared lol. So called the dog and went back in. In the house i was thinking all sorts in my head.

Had she heard two cats fighting, had a cat got a bird??? Anyway, i layed thinking that it had probably been two cats, or at least hoped, because they make a horrible noise when fighting. I just hoped little wren was safe and well and tried putting it to the back of my head that something might have happened to him.

Must have fell back to sleep then got woken by hubby just before 8am telling me he hadnt seen little wren but instead had seen a bird of prey sitting in the tree at the bottom of the garden. He doesnt know what sort it was (have had them before swoop down and pick the poor little birds up and fly off with them) but he said it had a white coloured speckled front with blue/grey, but more blue, wings and back. So then i started to worry that the 5am incident may have been the bird of prey swooping in the neighbours garden.

Still no sign of wren and we had to leave to take the dog swimming (hip dysplasia and has hydrotherapy sessions). When we got back, on came the t.v and camera to keep a look out and finally we heard his call and he was back in the nest. In and out with moss etc which was such a relief.

Havent seen as much of him today as other days though. He had a building session this morning and a brief one this afternoon.

Hubby thought there was two in the garden at one point, not that he saw two but said there was one sitting on the fence with a beakful of moss etc and at the same time he heard the wren song, but that ones beak didnt move.

Can they sing their song without moving their beak?
  • Oh thats a relief, glad he is ok! Its like having a new baby isnt it?! I think they can sing with their beaks closed, as when I was recently on holidays there were lovely little sparrows nesting in the door frame of the place we were staying and the male was bringing in twigs and fur to line the nest and he was chirping away with a beak full.

Sorry to jump on this thread but it sounds similar to what we have going on.

We are lucky enough to have quite a few birds nesting in our garden but a new one on me is a robin's nest in our patio heater.

They have built the nest above the gas bottle kept at the bottom. I dont want to disturb them but we will want to use the heater at some point. As its the top that gets hot does anyone think this would be a problem?

I have to say mum and dad are fantastic parents they must come and go 200-300 times a day!!!
