Will O2 actually care that I'm not using the correct handset.....and will they actually "know"........or is it just possible for them to "find out".....
What I mean here is....when I make a call.....is there a flag comes up on my account to say I'm not using the correct phone, and if so, has O2 got enough staff or time to collect all this info......or is it just flagged incase there is a problem in the future.....0 -

Each time a call is made, the IMEI number is recieved by the network operator but they are not botherered if you are using a different handset as the handset is not part of the contract. You can do whatever you like with a contract handset as it belongs to you from day one!

17.3 When you buy a contract/pay monthly package from us you must use the provided sim card with the provided phone. If we receive a 'non usage report' from the network that you are connected to, you will be charged the full retail price of the handset via your credit/debit card details
Hi, I'm in the same situation, only with Orange and MO, and don't want to keep the provided phone. It seems, from the discussion that the networks are aware of which phone you use. I understand that the network isn't bothered, but is there a risk of them sending a 'non usage report' about the phone to MO, or can MO enquire? Its a £360 gamble for me but it could also save MO £360 if they checked up after a couple of months, so if someone knows for sure it would be great.

Looking at renewing contract with Orange. I'm happy with current handset so thought I could sell the new upgrade handset and cover the costs of my contract. BUT - as I have had a phone replaced on orange insurance before, what would be the situation if I lost the handset I am currently using, claimed on insurance and replaced with upgraded handset? I would presume the person who bought the phone would have it blocked? Is there any way around this? Has anyone sold their upgraded phone and had this problem. Trying to think everything through first.

I would imagine the answer here, is to continue insuring your old phone and not insure the new one......0 -

Jaussie:rolleyes:Certain OTT members have caused me to add this disclaimer: all advice given is free of charge & as such should be taken to be IIRC (as I don't spend hours researching all answers  )!0 -
jnm21 wrote:I think that's a very valid question - if you get a new phone, your insurance probably transfers to it, so in essence, your fears are correct. A way around it would be to wait 15 days, ring Orange & say that you have decided to go back to the old phone & ask if they can transfer insurance back. They'll likely 'know' what you are doing, but not with enough certainty to mention it.
And (probably) as its an upgrade, they wont mind either, as you are remaining with them......although you may have been able to negotiate a discount on your present contract (without getting the new phone) equal to what you may get by selling the phone, and have much less hassle.0
