Baby has really bad nappy rash any tips?

Options
Hey all

my 6 month old has suddenly got a really bad nappy rash for the first time, I feel so bad for her she screams when I change her nappy and rub in sudocream, I have put her in my bed now for a nap with a load of towels underneath her, so she can sleep bare bummed (scared )

Has anyone got tried and tested effective cures?

Thankyou

I cant comment on its effectiveness as of yet. But Bepanthen is meant to be good.
We use it sometimes as it prevents nappy rash as well as heals it :)

When my little one got it i used bepanthen cream, that seemed to work really well.

Your doing the best thing though in letting her sleep bare bummed, i used to put a towel down in the middle of the living room to let my them roll around with a bare bum as well. My ones used to always get a sore bum whenever they were teething xx

Slap on lots of Sudocrem or Bepanthen.

As soon as she has wet or soiled a nappy, take it off and put a fresh one on her.

If you are at home a lot, leave her botty naked for as long as you can, to get the fresh air to it.

    What nappies are you using?

    Is she teething?

My son had a bit of nappy rash when he was teething, so it could be this.

Hope it gets better soon ~ it's awful to see them in distress :(

My DD would get nappy rash when she was teething. Best cure I found was fresh air (which you are doing) and I would do her vest up but with no nappy underneath if it was red raw so bit's wouldn't stick to it, but she was still getting air time iyswim.

I also found that when putting cream on it is best to apply a very thin layer and then leave it to completely sink in before putting nappy on as otherwise it stops the nappy drawing moisture away from their bum, and keeps the wee next to their skin. Less is more so to speak.

If it is looking really raw you can bath their bum with lot's of water (rather than wipes/ wiping it off which may hurt them, then dry their bum after with a hairdryer on cool setting. This makes sure they are completely dry each time, and helps to stop hurting them by rubbing etc.

If she is weaning/ on solids then try to avoid acidic foods/ drinks like tomatoes, peppers, orange juice etc, until healed.

If it carries on then take to the Dr as it could be thrush or some other problem not just ordinary nappy rash iyswim.

Hope it gets better really soon, I used to be in tears when she got it as it is so horrid seeing them in pain.

    metanium!!!!

Stuff of the Gods.. it was the only thing would touch DD3.. she was allergic to sudocrem.

Is he teething? It is quite common for sore botties when teething.

If it persists maybe have a word with your gp or hv. DS1 would often get a sore botty and it turned out to be thrush. A couple of nappy changes with Canestan and he was a totally happy boy again.

    It's only a game

Third vote for Metanium here i was using sudocream as a preventative measure but when bubs started teething it had no effect what so ever i tried the metanium after it was recommended by the ladies on here and we havent had a problem since its is also a fraction of the price of some of the other nappy creams and you only have to use the smallest amount for it to work.

The only thing i would say is if her nappy rash is really bad IE: it looks raw or blistered then take her to the docs for some stronger cream :-)
