Oooh, I've had an email from Egg with an 'Important Message', asking me to ring them! Maybe not. Looks like removing my phone number before all this started worked though, I've only had a letter and an email so far.

We heard from Payplan last night saying they're handling our DMP (we went through National Debtline and they allocate you to either PP or CCCS). Went through some personal details with DH last night, and they're going to ring back tonight to go through our budget. Hope it's all okay! Have to remember to tell them our tax credits went down, boo.

OMG OMG OMG, I feel sick any am ready to burst out crying at any minute:cry:

I have been feeling very positive having made the decision to set up a dmp, had put it on the backburner for a couple of weeks till the easter hols were over and am now starting the ball rolling so first job today was setting up a new bank account, did not go well. They asked so many questions wanted to know income outgoings etc etc, i paniced and lied when it came to "do u have an overdraft?" "do u have any credit/store cards?", I said no!, then if i want a current account so direct debits can go out they need 3 months bank statements:eek::eek::eek:, what am i going to do, i do have 2 accounts with my current bank and only one of them has an overdraft the other account is fine but I only have 1 direct debit going out of this and only my tax credits and child benifit are paid into it, wont they find this strange????

The problem is there is only 3 banks in my town 2 of which i have cc's with so it only leaves this bank, had thought about an online bank but dont really know anything about them does anyone else?

Really didnt think it was so complicated to open an account.

Just want to crawl into a ball now and cry, and this only my first step, i really have felt so good since deciding to do the dmp and have been looking forward to getting it sorted and having money to budget and not live of credit cards any more (a bit scared at the thought too though not having the plastic for back up).

Sorry for the rant and long post, I have just came home from the bank and really panicing.

Firstly, big hugs, sounds like you've had a horrid time.

What bank are you trying to go with? Co-op are very good and do a basic account. It doesn't matter if you don't have a branch in your town as you can pay in and do withdrawals at a post office, and you can check everything online as well. We've had a Co-op for years, and most of the time haven't had a local branch and it hasn't bothered us at all.

Agree about Co-op, would recommend them even without a DMP. Luckily I do have a branch option as well as on-line.May I say something to newbies thinking of starting a DMP from my experience.I decided to start the ball rolling during the two months that I did not need to pay the council tax, thus having that money spare. In fact it does take awhile to set up, so doing it earlier would have worked, so basically maybe waiting for a reason isn't worth the wait.M&S (loan and cc) have accepted , not sure what that is going to mean interest wise on the cc.

    Welcome to the board Andy!
You are going in the right direction and once you have taken that frst step you will so much better. It's a rollercoaster at first getting everything set up and running and can be stressful at times.
I went to Nationwide and they handed me an application pack where I had to fill in my details and send it off with 1 bank statement which has to be from the last 3 months which I printed off at home. Also you will need 2 utility bills such as council tax/water for example. You need a basic cash card account with no overdraft though! It takes around 2 weeks for it to be processed but don't worry my old bank statement showed that i was overdrawn over my overdraft yet I was still accepted by Nationwide!
Also make sure as soon as a new account is set up and the direct debits have gone out of your old account, cancel them and switch them over straight away. As I had a few I did them one by one as they came out of the old i cancelled and switched them.

Good luck and you are on the right road!

    HELP!
    Hi Andy

I would just like to say that there is no need to panic and feel ashamed about doing a DMP. I made the choice to do one about 2 months ago, have sent out token payments and first proper payment is going out on 1 May.
I went into my bank to ask about a payment, got told the account I had was so old they didn't do it anymore, and got told there and then to change it! I felt a little humilated, when he started asking me the questions about overdrafts, credit cards, loans etc, that I told him that I was in debt, my credit rating was shot and that I was doing a DMP. He was the nicest guy I have ever met that works for a banking organisation and his words were 'it happens more often than you think, don't worry about it'.
Just go back into your back explain your situation to them and tell them you want a basic no frills account. If they want bank statements let them have them, at the end of day they would have seen worst accounts and at least you are now doing something about it.

    Good luck.

Hi Andy everythings been said, just sending you lots of postive vibes to stock you back up!
I think the co-op is a fab choice. If you are gonna open an account I would do it online, its just so much easier. They hardly ask any questions and sometimes you dont even need to go in to prove ID. I got one with A&L, very straight forward. TBH I always do stuff online, cant be bothered with queues and nice smiley faces :rotfl:

Got a letter from Natwest this morning saying that if we dont pay total within 14 days or keep up with our repayment plan they are gonna demand full repayment  Took me a few times to realise that it was a comp gen letter and not to freak out. They did say that 28 days after receiving first payment, which would have been in feb! they would stop interest. Funny that, as they are still charging it :( Guess gonna have to get Dh to ring them again.

And whilst searching the net found lots of info on discount schemes now DS has DLA and carers status. Cool! I can take him swimming and it wont cost a penny... And since when is 2 the cut off point for free kids stuff... arent they still kids at 3yrs. All our local visitor places seem to have chosen to charge a 3yr old alomst as much as an adult :mad: Might have to try and smuggle DD in in the back of the pram :rotfl:

Hi, Nat - Natwest said the same thing to me, then charged interest on the 1st statement but 2nd statement has just arrived with zero interest on.

Got my Halifax statement as well today - they've decided to play nice for now and stop the charges.

    Hi all,

I miss 2 days and its all gone bonkers again, washing, holidays, children mini meltdowns and lurvvvvvvvvvve :blushing::blushing:

I would have posted earlier but have had prying eyes over my shoulders this weekend

VICB well done for getting through your MM this week

ALBEB welcome your in the right place for lots of advice and info

ANDYD don't cry lovely it'll be fine, everything everyone has posted to you is right, either go back to your bank and ask for a basic account or try co-op online. i did my Nationwide account online and that was fine.

Rhian82 hope it goes ok with EGG def ring them, they advise not to, but if your feeling strong enough to bat some of there questions back def do it. I had to Rbarstewards yesterday and the chap was very helpful.

Mamajo, i've been to Cornwall in Oct and it was lovely just nice to be away. We often went to BUde and got some good deals on static caravans

As for all you other paddlers, hope your all good. We're nearing another payment day to our creditors.

i have the inlaws coming on Monday for a week for the OH's birthday. Bit of tough one gift wise as i'm unemployed and skint. i've managed to save up a bit and had a voucher from amazon that i've been stashing to buy him a pressie. He understands though.

Another job interview tm everything crossed.

group hug to you all will try and pop back later.:D:D
