Never understood why people spend half an hour queuing up at the bank when virtually all accounts these days allow you to manage your account online or via the phone. Haven't been in a branch in ages.

Absolutely agree, however in my area it seems to be older people/foreigners (sp?) who probably don't have internet access.

I have to go in as my company still insists on paying expenses by cheque rather than bacs. Otherwise I would never go into my bank.

I would love to go in but they shut my local handybank years ago.
I also dread the stopping of cheques. How are you suppposed to pay for expensive school trips, a months worth of school dinners or sending long distance birthday presents etc? They went cashless to stop the dinner money being 'misappropriated'.

Simple, the schools will have to start handling BACS, standing orders or DDs. Long distance birthday presents? ask for an account number and again use BACS, I'd rather have a tenner put in my account than have to travel to a bank or post a cheque and wait ages for it.

    Sorry Martin,

Didn't notice your clarification, please change my 'F' to 'G'. "Hurrah" for on-line banking!

I have 2 bank accounts, one is an on line only bank, the other a High Street name.Using these I get max interest/advantages and it costs nothing.

In true OS style I do a lot of on line surveys, some of which pay by cheque so I go into branch to pay them in every few weeks. I very seldom have to queue, and certainly not behind crowds like one has to at a supermarket checkout. Strange that people get more agitated about queuing to pay money in than they do about spending it!

I wonder wether other banks would accept cheques through the post as A & L and Santander do? I just pop em in an envelope and send them off saves any queuing , come to think of it I can't actually remember the last time I wrote or received a cheque for anything..

I use the traveling Bank mostly at my gate - I also like to take cash out at the counter rather than at machines. At the counter you can get the cash in the denomination that suit you rather than large notes.

It's A for me and expect a disproportionate numbers of others simply because of the date and the year-end businesses and ISA rush. I was in a branch on Saturday with all the counters open and a queue out the door.

For a true reflection of normal usage maybe post the same question is 6 months and see if the results are similar?
