mambury im told the same. 2 years ago i would have totalled backed your ideas on the growing drug problem. I do think alcohol needs reviewing as it is too easily accessable. Get rid of 24 hour and drink promotions as well. supermarkets should in my eyes be only accessable for alcohol for responsible people and my eyes i see a 21 or even 25 age limit on drinking. Thats just my views. Yes as an ex cannabis user myself i would have backed it many times. As for the extra taxes this wouldn't really work in my eyes and always said this as they make tax on cannabis now with the bongs, papers etc and tax on seeds as it is. Lib dems say growing for own use for instance would be ok so there wouldnt be any extra tax on that. I also get quite opinionated mambury on isuees with drugs and politics. I just wouldnt want my daughter or nephews being able to access it easily. I mean amsterdam where i have been 6 times in 2 years is easily accessable by plane and i believe thats fine as it is. As for education i would repell that to kids on drugs i wouldnt want my daughter knowing all those things. This is not possible in my eyes and for me mambury here my opinion is the attitude of this society. Netherlands have a great social attitude towards but they have a different mindset over here and no offence intended here with all the bums, chav's and general D*?'heads a lot of peoples attitudes cannot be changed. Thats just me though mambury and i enjoy a good debate dont get me wrong here at all. really enjoy talking politics with someone with strong opinions too

Carefull HHH,.... we might just have to start our own thread!!! LOL!

Realistically, teenagers will experiment.... I would rather my kids experimented with cannabis than alcohol. You would cut our access to hard drugs if it were legalised. As far as growing for personal use, a bloody good idea.... a lot of people who smoke / use cannabis do not want to use dealers, and would rather be able to go to the shop and buy or grow their own.

As far as educating children, they need to know all aspects. If you tell a teenager who is at the age of trying to find themselves that all drugs are bad then they won't listen. What you need to teach them is the actual physiological and psychological effects of the drugs and the pro and cons. For example, morphine is derived from heroin.... now there is a good use for that drug, yet is highly addictive but is seen as okay because it is prescribed. Heroin on its own is seen as a negative. I believe (and I have knowledge of what heroin does, my sister is an addict) that heroin would not be as prevalent in this country if the drugs eduction is improved and drugs were reclassified . You have LSD classified as a Class A when it is proven to be less harmful in tests than Alcohol which is widely available. The government will not re classify drugs, or alcohol, as they are worried about their own jobs and not whats best for the country as a whole.

I really think we need a much more liberal attitude in this country from education through to drugs, and everything in between!

Right...thats enough politics for me today! Well until tonight anyway!

We need to view drug misuse more as a public health issue

We believe treatment and prevention should be the priority for individuals who use
    drugs.

I think those two sentences sum it up for me completely

I havent voted yet and dont know what to vote to be honest
I dont think Britain will do well whatever party comes in, I think society as a whole has taken a step back
No community spirit anymore and materialism rules
Also not one party came out looking good on the expences scandal, garlic crushers and duck houses as expences....There on a different planet

I think the country has a massive problem - we have no money and all Gordon has done is prop us up on credit for the past 2 years. As a MSE I have realised that reducing debt is the way forward in my life, and the fact my youngest child has a £XX,000 debt on his head already at 4 months old, is quite frankly rediculous and it is time this country woke up to the fact that the days of easy credit have gone, and should stay gone forever!

I for one think the banks should be so heavily regulated that the government have intimate knowledge of what underwear the bankers are wearing. I also think they should drop the whole bonus culture and LIMIT the amount of profit a bank can make (Anything above this amount goes to the government to pay off the countries debts). However to achieve this the banks would have to be nationalised (Which based on the fact the country already owns 60% iirc would make it quite easy)

I also think the housing market is completely overinflated - and that is with me in a position if I sold my house now to make a 20k loss if im lucky. Forget making more affordable housing, make a mortgage damn near impossible to buy a house for on todays income, or go back to 3x your annual wage as the limits like they w here 20 years ago. Non of this 4-5x your combined annual wage as a mortgage limit over 99 years (or however long it is - im starting to get into rant again).......

This would instantly stall the housing market - which is not necessarily a bad thing as it seams.. House prices would drop down and there would be a massive increase in Short term repossessions and bankruptcies as people are forced to clear themselves of assets they can not afford to keep. with a strong and consistent government - in 10-15 years the country would be in a good and financially stable state from not having the massive amount of debt we have now.

Then maybe some of this savings from the debt payments could go into what matters, rather than loan interest etc.... Education, Police, NHS, Fire Brigade etc.

Also it would be beneficial to the UK Manufacturing industry if we were to impose higher taxes on importing manufactured goods which can be manufactured in this country.

In all honesty and all IMO of course - Drugs are only a secondary policy in comparison to other things which need addressing as a matter of urgency - the euro should not even be considered until we are in a financially stable state

    I agree HHH
The attitude of the dutch is different to here
Look what happened when they introduced longer drinking hours so people would space there drinking out......Oh yeh as predicted by anyone with sense, people crammed as much alchohol down as humanly possible for longer
What used to be a quiet market town where I live, has turned into a drug and alchohol fuelled hole on a weekend
We used to enjoy a drink at weekends but were limited in hours only open from7pm till 11pm and we still sometimes got wrecked, but there was a better atmosphere in the pubs
All that happens now is fights, we even had a riot here were the police were attacked and cars rolled, over someone spilling a drink...bunch of idiots.
the police staion has been closed and nearest station is 20 mile away,so young do as they like as no one to stop them ...when I was young we had police presence as pubs came out to nip any problems in the bud
As for drugs I would like to see more of a crack down on them, there was not many drugs to be had years ago, an odd joint but very rarely, now we have a heroin problem and cocaine is commonplace

    aaaargh.
I am going to vote. I had it all sorted out in my head. I have a very strong reason to vote the way I had decided. probably the most important reason I can think of for now. BUT I find it hard to vote for that party. Really hard.
The problem is there is not one party that I can in all conscience vote for. not even the small parties.
The thing I fear most is labour policies and so a hung parliament scares me.
aargh its really doing my head in right now
I'm not disaffected I'm very involved but its making it impossible cos each option seems like a vote against my conscience.

Hi Evenstar- aww that's horrible about DDs photo :-( Hope the day improves for you hun.

Just did that votematch thing and it reckons I should be voting Labour....hmm don't think so. Was thinking of Lib Dem but had no idea that they wanted to legalize cannabis again so thanks for that info HH. Lib dems have won here for about twenty years so will prob get in anyway....was thinking of green party but that would be a wasted vote . Toooo confusing for my tiny brain cell :-(

But if everybody that said that voted for them ... though it does depend on there being a Green candidate (or whatever party) in your consistency. The area where I am registered only puts up the 3 main parties, and I feel disenfranchised.

    Part of the Furniture
I agree with a lot of what you say, NLID. I would just add my two-pennorth which has had me yelling at the TV a lot this past month.

I wish I had a fiver for each time I've heard someone say they would "spend more" or "invest more" in schools and public services. And what I want to know is why more money is automatically a solution? If 80% of it is wasted, then throwing an extra few million at it is like the little dutch boy standing with his thumb in the hole as gallons of water pour out past him! I'm not advocating these "efficiencies" as they keep spouting on about as that's just double speak for cuts. But wastage pure and simple needs to be cut out.

The other thing is they talk about driving up standards in education and how GCSEs aren't easier and it's an insult to kids because they work hard blah blah. Well my 12 year old is seriously bright and at an excellent school with excellent teachers, and I look at her books and I am horrified! Stuff that is now GCSE level was done by 11-13 year olds in my day. Heaven help them if they were asked to take an O level. And this isn't the kids fault and yes they work hard to do what is asked of them, but no standards aren't going up and it's more of an insult to make the kids think that what they are doing is on a par with what their parents did.

They bang on about numeracy and literacy, but how can they improve when they are being TAUGHT by teachers who don't understand the stuff? Even at K's school I sent back one spelling test where she had had accommodation marked as wrong and made to write out accomodation three times! Did you see that programme about maths teaching in schools? About 60% of the teachers couldn't pass a KS2 SATs paper! And they are meant to teach our kids.

Sometimes I despair, I really do.
