oh Em, I wondered if you felt like that about posting, you don't need to. I nearly went to bed without refreshing but I'm so glad I didn't.
so so pleased to hear from you.
Em your ducks were special and symbolic to you in many ways and being resilient doesn't have to mean not affected. I have been upset for you and your ducks and I have never even met them.
    big big hugs.

your response sparked me to think of ways we could save money even when we aren't physically spending it which had entered my head but only briefly. so thanks.
theres loads on the old style board including making a cup of tea with just the right amount of water in the kettle and then once boiled putting the water for next cup in. don't switch on till ready but the water will absob heat from the freshly boiled kettle and although it won't retain it for ever will need slightly less energy to get to the boil than really cold from the tap.
wow it will only save a tiny amount of money but what thinking to come up with that. it would never have crossed my mind!

Another way to save that money you could use the car exhaust manfold and a pan to boil the water for the cup of tea ;)

To save £1 in energy costs is quite difficult for us, in the sense we only have the heating on in the room we are in, when it is needed. the water only goes on when we need it (Despite it being a combi boiler - dont want to use the extra for the led/pilot light)

As for electric - we are constantly trimming whereever we can and have low poer lights wherever we can fit them and only have the light on when needed to avoid light straing. As I said before all plugs are unplugged when we goto bed/out.

Im trying to work out what I can do that would save money without cutting productivity.....

The only thing I can think of is the laptop will not spend all day switched on as it is a bank holiday and I will be getting the project car upto scratch....

I would walk on our one car journet but it is about 20-30 miles and as such would cause no end of pain with a 4 1/2 month old baby !

Hi Em - I know what you mean about investing time into things - my project cars (I have two - one destined to be a daily drive when its finished in the next couple weeks) have had 1000's of hours invested in them. So much so they are worth so much more than the financials and I would be gutted if they were to go!

I hope you still have fight in you and adopt some more animals to take care of - so them going missing is not in vain as other animals have the opportunity of your love.

Thanks Jo - you always know exactly what to say! I've read so much of your advice over the last few weeks and it's all so right! I was just thinking that 'Joprah' doesn't do you justice - it should be someone much more wise. You're a superstar :) I hope you're not put off from having ducks because of our experience - we had so many magical moments from them that i wouldn't change it for the world. Two weeks ago, we gave a lady - who we met down on the beach in the mornings - three of our duck eggs as she has a broody hen and so we may be able to have one of the ducklings if it's successful. I'm still thinking of doing the duck blog too :)
Glad all your cafe work is going well - can't wait to come to your own cafe :) for cake and coffee :)

Thanks NLID that's a lovely thing to say :) You're right that it's so much more than the financial investment. Our neighbour who forgot to shut them away offered us the money for new ducks but it's not about that at all. I can't blame him as i'd have done the same, i've not seen him for a while and was thinking of maybe buying him a plant or something so he knows there are no hard feelings.

I hope your business is going well - i followed all the posts on the other thread that lovely Nixi created and i definitely thought that your business came out tops. I was impressed at how it was handled as i'd have wanted to be a lot more defensive/ blunt - it wasn't needed and the product speaks for itself at the end of the day. You've done a fab job :)
