Amber - what made you live in Spain?? Are you actually Spanish? My parents have a little apartment thing in Altea it's nice enough. My spanish is limited to dos estrella por favor. which is shockingly bad. Bizzarly i can understand words so get the jist of a conversation but can't actually speak much.

I'm English. When I decided to leave, it was Spain or France, as they're the two languages I know something of. My Spanish is pretty good by now, you do need to live in a country to learn the language well. TBH ordering two beers is about as much as most Brits know :D

Eek, my Eon bill came through and I'm £200 in debit. Not impressed!!

    Hi nikki

Just noticed your posts and hope you don't mind if I offer a bit of general advice.

Is the bill based on accurate meter readings or estimates? Let us know if we have used estimates. Tell us the actual readings and ask for a replacement bill. Could make a difference.

I know that being in debt in Winters normal but still, its the first winter i've paid them so I've never been in debt before. My DD is up by £8 a month - excellent.

Your Direct Debit should have been increased to include any outstanding balance. This automatically spreads the amount owed over a period of time to, hopefully, make the payments a little more manageable.

The excessive cold weather this winter has increased most people's bills. Going forward, there are things you can do to help reduce usage and save on your bills.

Have a chat with our Energy Efficiency team. Give them a list of your appliances and they will be happy to advise of ways you may be able to cut back.

Ask for a copy of a booklet called '100 ways to save money by saving energy.' It's free and contains lots of useful energy saving tips.

Check out our website; particularly the interactive house. More good tips here.

The 10:10 campaign might also be of interest. This is a climate change campaign aimed at helping people reduce their energy consumption by 10 per cent by the end of 2010. Again, details are on our website.

Sorry if I'm talking to the converted, nikki, but I hope this is useful. Give me a shout if you need any more info as will be happy to help. :)

MAP - re your pm, here are some of the books I like -

20th century classics, interior design, tarot (obviously) and witchcraft (modern), alternative therapies, French and Spanish lit and language, biographies, cats, photography (art books, not how to), Paris, cinema, history, LOVE all sorts of novels but … can't stand romance, chicklit, sport, not fond of crime.
