Em (emminently) one of our founder members and very lovely person too, has 2 pet white indian runner ducks which her husband got her for her 30th last year. she has been away for the weekend and got back to find her neighbour who was looking after them had forgotten to shut them back in and they have gone. as they don't fly they have presumably been got by a fox.very upsetting.

NLID when I first started menu planning we cut down from takeaway/chippy once a week (which had become a habit) to once a fortnight. I had a menu plan that repeated every fortnight and the 2nd friday was chippy. Now its once a month but we do cheat from time to time and the menu plan has gone out of the window but will be reviving it in the near future. prob get organised to start again for May.
Not saying you should do this just that you don't have to cut it out to cut it down!

On a sat night I would do a feast night with a theme, ie mexican with fajitas, wedges, nachos etc or american with hotdogs, fries, popcorn I just lay it all out buffet style and everyone helps themselves, usually pig out we have a family film too with everyone getting turn to chose
Just an alternative to take away and fun for kids, also good to get family together0 -
Em Im sorry to hear about your ducks.....I had same happen when I had ducks
The muscovys were all I had left but they are bigger and less likely to be got
It is upsetting because you get attached ....I was gutted when our rooster died, some people think its silly to be upset by things like that, but no one here does0 -
Love this idea evenstar.
and calling it a feast too makes it sound exciting. may well start doing something similar. could I think up enough themes for doing it every week especially with our combinations of me who doesn't like fish and DH who won't eat meat but will eat fish. DS eats anything except hummus so he's easy and DD who won't eat anything with much texture to it.
What a challenge that would be.
Still with some internet research and a bit of thought we could probably do it.

and interestingly enough I just found a family blog earlier tonight called something like food and storytelling with loads of inspiration so maybe could have other themes too based on stories we read and not just countries. isn't it great how sometimes things just tie in so neatly. all inspired now. but should go back to bed soon. DH back at work tomorrow so got to deal with kids and dizziness. will prob just walk round to my friends and flop there for a bit for some of the day. then do some easy activities and some reading. will be fine.
