  • With eBay I just refuse to buy it if they try to charge more for Northern Ireland delivery.

    I would always point out politely first that postage to NI from UK mainland will not cost the seller any extra just in case they have made a genuine mistake (never fails to amaze me how many people don't actually realise that NI is indeed part of the UK, whether they like it or not), but if they persist in trying to rip me off I'd just say no. If they specifically mention it in their ad I would contact them before bidding, so that they couldn't accuse me of being a non paying bidder either....

    Unfortunatly it's not royal mail that over charge its other courier firms, most firms that use City link are charged a NI surcharge think it is some thing like £10 - £12 + vat. I think this is to pay for the extra it costs the companies to transport goods to NI.

    i know!!!!!!!! its is such a pain in the bum. courieers always charge sellers more to ship to northern ireland but royal mail are the same. if i see them charging extra and psotage method is royal mail i will point out to them that it is the same and a lot of the time they are just too dumb to realise!

    shipping charges to N ireland ... my pet hate ....

    I started this list of the good and bad .... if anyone would care to add to it
    or correct anything wrong then please do so ...

    LIST A: The Good List
    ==============
    https://www.amazon.co.uk (Free!)
    https://www.scan.co.uk
    https://www.tekheads.co.uk
    https://www.komplett.co.uk
    https://www.kustompcs.co.uk
    https://www.mymemory.co.uk
    https://www.crucial.com/uk
    https://www.ukofficedirect.co.uk
    https://www.cclonline.com

    LIST B: The Bad List
    =============
    https://www.ebuyer.com (£15 surcharge on top of standard shipping)
    https://www.microdirect.co.uk (£15 surcharge)
    https://www.misco.co.uk (£15.22 surcharge)
    https://www.dabs.com (£15 surcharge)
    https://www.savastore.com (£15 surcharge on top of standard shipping - min £22.20 inc vat!)
    I used to have a signature with links to the League Tables for good/bad shipping charges for Northern Ireland. But I have since learnt that this is against site rules - so they are no longer here! PM me if you need them

    Not surprisingly the companies in the A list do fare quite well and have good reputations. The ones in the B list, well, don't even start me on Misco. Dabs I don't recommend to anyone anymore, their ordering system is so daftly OTT (or was 5-years ago). And as for 'sava', about says it all real, can't even spell! :)

    Scan have been going since the late 80's, remember them from years ago, my first 14" SVGA monitor came from them in the days when 256k on a 16-bit graphics card was loads, whooopeee!!

    Personally I find it ridiculous that these companies are so obsessed with couriers anyway. On the whole, RM stuff sent recorded or special is quite adequate and you know the chances are that the stuff will come via the poor sod of a postman that has to walk down your street everyday.

    and the REALLY annoying bit is that some of the companies you have to register an account to find there is a surcharge for n ireland (this was certainally the reson i ended up registering an account on ebuyer which i still have never used)

    Yeah that really gets my goat. With many companies it is actually cheaper to get an item shipped internationally than it is to get from the mainland. Plain and total stupidity.

    The funny thing... those in the mainland dont really see issue with it. However if, as an NI person, you tell them you will be surcharging to send to the mainland... it is as if you slept with their daughter or something!
    2 + 2 = 4
    except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.

    I'd like to add https://www.7dayshop.com to the Good List - I have had no trouble from them at all regards delivery - and they are good value to start with anyway.
