    Hi Martin,
I hope you're feeling better though I doubt it - you need some recovery time.:) You sound like you're running on empty.
Firstly, I'm sorry to hear about your Dad - my very best wishes to you and yours.
Here is what works for me & this probably includes tips already posted. Apologies in advance for the puns.:o
    1. Go bananas - my son is a dancer - high energy - athletes eat them all the time : next time you're watching Wimbledon, stop watching the game and go banana spotting! And no, I'm not joking. :)
    2. Pretend you're an aspidestra - water, water, water! Drink it and take cool showers (not cold - that's for something else:o )
    3. Power naps can work but don't go over 30 mins. Make sure it's in a quiet place ( cupboard under the stairs?;) ) and maybe set the alarm just in case.
    4. Singing is a good one - loud, upbeat music, lifts your mood.....I've got some Barry Manilow if you need it Martin.:D
    5. Try using a flannel soaked in water as hot as you can stand it - like they give you during long haul flights. Really good because you get a facial at the same time as refreshing you. Getting hot? Cold water on wrists and back of your neck - and your ankles and feet (if they can reach the sink).
    6. I agree too with laughter - your favourite comedian works wonders.
    7. Little and often with food and drink. You need a constant input of food and drink.
    8. Inspite of all your commitments, nothing can beat 1 or 2 nights of quality sleep.
Your work is invaluable to so many :T but you need to look after yourself too. Nothing like a big hug to make you feel better.
And thank you for all you've done to make a difference :A

Martin - I run on empty a lot too (must be a journalist thing) and here's what I do:

nap - as others have said a quick 10-20 min nap works wonders

cup your hands over your eyes so there's no light getting in and keep your eyes open for a minute or two. This relaxes the eye muscles and really helps.

    drink water

eat something nutritious. Try vegetable soup, banana, or just a bowl of cereal

plan when you will get to sleep - somehow if your body knows it will get to sleep at some point it seems to behave much better

Try not to worry about your dad. Write down all your fears, then put the letter away. Getting it out seems to help you cope.

Come on here for a virtual hug!!

    (((hugs Martin)))

I can vouch for a strong cup of black coffee with at least 2 1/2 sugars and then a can of red bull. Got me through the next couple of hours more times than I care to remember!
