I havent been too bad hunger wise after the planner the thnigs i will carry on doing is
Porridge prob most days only takes 5 mins from start to finish to make and is more filling than toast
    Bean Pate
Hummous (made my own version before)
    Apple curd
    Onion tart
    Spanish omelette
Chilli Mince but will upgrade to a better mince
    Pizza dough
Bread but prob not all the time the PM version is lovely but a bit faffy
    All the pasta dishes
Pate but will again prob upgrade to chicken liver as the pigs is a bit strong
So what my waffling is saying is that i will be carrying on with many of the meals and snacks as i know now that they are healthy, filling and nutrious and are frugal and hope that this is the same for many of us

I think i will carry on so far with
    Chilli
Beanpate (mine went within the first couple of days oooppps)
    pizza
    spanish omelette
Pate (but like shanks with probs use chicken)
    carbonara
The PIES (we both loved these)
    potato and onion soup

The things I am missing though are
    Bananas
    lettuce
    cucumber
boursin (actually all types of cheeses)

But these are expensive and apart from cucumber could reduce them to 'treat' food rather than part of the normal weekly shop now I have seen what nommmy meals I can have without them.

Cucumber must stay thought it is my favouritist (I know thats not a word!) food in the world!!!

Weezl have I missed the bread youtube or have you not uploaded yet?

the vid is really naff for seeing the texture of the dough :(

I've been trying to download some software to see if I can make it any better, but the software that might do it is £600

I think I'll make another batch and take copious photos :o:o:o

So is it mostly the risi and the breakfast toast toppers that normal people (ie not in a shirley situation) wouldn't carry on with?

Or are you more meaning that shirley won't carry on after trying them once?

What I'm trying to ask, is does everything stay on the planner or not? :)

The rest of my family are finding most of the foods quite carby and stodgey/heavy.
I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to carry on once the month is over....
so do you think shirley needs 'permission' (not that she needs it, but you know what I mean :))not to serve as much rice/pasta if the family are full without it?

Or have I got the wrong end of the stick?:o :rotfl:

Oh weezlie dont do another batch that just makes more work for you.:o I think I just need a rough guide on how to do it. Obviously if you really dont want to post it dont-but I dont want you using all your time for that.:(

Um....I think the breakfast/toast toppers are just that little bit more 'out there' in comparison to what people eat normally so takes a bit of getting used to.

I think everything could stay on the planner as they are edible and do work, but some people may just still buy ham for the sandwiches etc...
Are they something you as a family eat on a daily basis weezl? maybe it is just a question of getting used to a new taste.

and this mission continues to get artybear to love hm bread! One thing Im not clear on arty is what is it you like about the bread and dont like too? May help us identify a loaf that would work! Have you tried the one with readybrekky stuff in?
Frankie can you idetify what it is they are rebelling against?!! If its just too much too soon would a half and half version work (ie they get some of their ordinary foods with frugal ones as well)...

I think Arty is right about needing to get used to things. We generally eat quite frugally, but because quite a few of these meals aren't "our" meals yet, they just seem a bit strange. I'm quite sure some of them will become "our" meals though.

We're not sticking strictly to the plan tonight, in that we're having pasta amatriciana rather than alfredo because I can't figure out a non-faffy way to omit cheese from mine but leave it in for DH. With the tomatoey one he can have a bit grated on top if he wants :)

For us as a family, we do eat quite frugally normally but the meals on this plan aren't meals we would probably normally eat, well some are but not how we would eat them.
So, we eat pie, chilli, cottage pie, a type of carbonara.
We don't eat anything like the sandwich fillers, except the pate, which I've yet to make, though we don't eat that on sandwiches.
The toast toppers are different to what we eat too and we don't often eat porridge.

I think I posted a vague outline of our breakfasts and lunches. I'll try to find it so you can see what I mean.

I will keep some of the evening meals, though.

We liked the Bacon & Onion Pudding and the Spanish Omelette and the pizza topping, though we don't eat pizza often.

weezl I certainly don't want you to feel downhearted. My DH suggested that perhaps if I hadn't mentioned anything and had just fed the children the main meals they perhaps wouldn't have noticed...I'm not sure if I could have gotten the toast toppers and sandwich fillers past them without saying something, though.

Oh, we also like the sweet scones and the carrot cake.

Perhaps as in search of me said it might work better for me if I did half and half?

That's a good question arty, Well DH is certainly very happy with hummus and bean pate for lunch and considers the liver pate quite a treat, and we're miles away from being in the financial circs of shirley, but I wonder if we're unusual :(. I think that's what this is making me realise really. I looked at the only 4 other subsistence level planners I've been able to find (bread, peanut butter and reconstituted dried milk was one of them! 4 times a day every day:eek:) and I thought, 'I could make subsistence much more attractive than that!' I'm just not sure if I'm going about it the right way. I guess I thought the brekkies and lunches would be where people would more compromise in order to have a more 'normal' evening meal...

    Any thoughts gratefully received!

Breakfast: usually cereal (wheat bisks, meusli, porridge are currently available) or toast (peanut butter, choc spread, jams currently available. On a Saturday we like to have a bacon sandwich.
DH has been known to have bacon more often, though .

Lunch: Sandwiches, piece of cake and perhaps a piece of fruit for the children and I have the same when I go to Uni. DH likes something hot for lunch so if I am at home I will often make something for us both or I will have a sandwich and give him leftovers.

This is the post of what we have 'normally'....
