Realised I forgot to answer your question from before about the onion tart. I was just thinking that if something had a scone base it would be weird to have it with bread. If it has a pastry one then I think bread and butter would be nice. I guess the alternative is something like wedges, a little lighter than a heavy mash etcGod is good, all the time
Do something that scares you every day

I owe you a big fat apology and you owe me a big fat I told you so. The amount of oil I gave for the bacon pudding was wrong
I've just remade it and I've realised I made a mistake converting from imperial to metric measurements.
I think it should be 55ml oil, and am just steaming a pudding now to test this, but will do a taste test and another one just to be sure.
Sorry about that and to all who had dodgy steamed puds cos of me

following on from the above, shall we season it with oregano and balsamic?

I did it with the old measurements and thought it was greatI think that might well be because like so many others here I have never done - or indeed eaten - a steamed pudding (other than a Christmas one) before, so I didn't have anything to compare it to
Mind you, !!!!!! liked it too, but I think that must have been cos he's so used to my, um, creative interpretations of classic dishes that he has also left all preconceptions at the door :rotfl:
Regarding the dish measurements - I did the pudding in a 6" (15 cm) diameter pudding basin (the depth of it is 10cm/4") and that was slightly larger than it needed to be - I checked out my 1pt Pyrex measuring jug, and that would definitely be big enough if I didn't have a basin.
I found that a half portion onion tart (for 2 people) will fit perfectly into a 7" (17.5 cm) diameter sandwich tin, and traybakes such as carrot cake and ceral bars produce 32 perfect snack-sized rectangles in a 11"x10" tray with depth of 1.5" (28x25com, depth 4cm).0 -
I don't suppose anyone is as fussed about this as I am, but grrrrrrr:mad: at the price of fresh fruit. This turns out to have been a non-negotiable that is 3 times as costly as Bob's meat would you believe! £15 to give each member of the family 1 piece of fresh fruit every day!!!!!!!!
I could do it all as apples for slightly cheaper but have included some bananas and pears for variety
rant over
as you were

Actually, Weezl, this is subject of great interest to me, as the only way for me to get DD to hav her five a day this time of year is to buy fresh fruit (this is largely why she is off plan) - add to that trying to fit in all th colours, and the end result is that 9 days into the plan and the running tally for off-plan for fruit and veg that I am buying just for her is so far £8.77 - and what this covers is just grapes, apples and cucumber. She also has carrots (raw only, but as they feature on the plan shopping list I am not counting those), onions (ditto) and sweetcorn (the only cooked vegetable) which I have not counted as yet due to large stocks still in the freezer.
Now, this does not really bother me that greatly on a personal level because there are tons of things we could give up to save cash before we'd be forced to reconsider her fresh fruit habit, but if I was Shirley, I'd not be a happy bunny at all.0 -
.......comes in waving white flag of surrender.........
I give up trying to make Weezls pastry thats twice i have done it and twice it has been a disaster i know its me as no-one else seems to have a problem but from now on i will just be doing my own pastry as that is doing my head in.
Have also made the bean pate and tried the tomato biscs both of which delicious. The pudding is just waiting to be steamed for tonight.
Cant believe we are on day 9 already and fingers crossed no-one has had a complete disaster or a meal that was inedible so the planner looks good:j0 -
DH bought butter today and I think while I'm at uni the rest of the family is pretty much off plan except the bread....
I'm sure it'll be a bit easier once they are at school and it's not costing me any extra..DH paid for his butter himself0 -
:rotfl:at the butter revolt Frankie.
I gave in and gave mr arty a chicken sandwich today-but it was just dry chicken on dry bread. Bless him he told me I was sweet to let him have some 'frugal' chicken and didnt mention butter or mayo or anything.:o;)
I had pate on toast for lunch so nearly on plan:DIn art as in love, instinct is enough

Day 9
I'm finding that I'm quite hungry after lunch. I'm taking a sandwich (2 pieces of bread) to uni and a piece of carrot cake.
I've been having toast for breakfast (4 slices of bread) due to time and that's not so bad.
I'm needing toast when I get in from Uni, though. between 2 and 4 pieces.
Dinner is lovely and filling and I'm not needing a pudding afterwards.
That's just my feedback.
The rest of my family are finding most of the foods quite carby and stodgey/heavy.
I'm not sure what I'm going to be able to carry on once the month is over....0
