Here is my oatcake recipe. It is good with cracked pepper too but not MS. I also add a spoonful of grano pandano for a treat sometimes too.
Makes about 20.
140g instant oat cereal
140g porridge oats
10 twists of black pepper
½ tsp salt
75ml vegetable oil
Preheat the oven to 180C/350F/gas mark 4 and dust two baking trays with flour. Mix all the dry ingredients in a bowl. Pour the oil into a well in the centre, then pour in enough boiling water to bind it into a firm, not sticky, dough. Work quickly. Don't worry if you over-water a bit - you can remedy the situation by adding more oatmeal.
Form the dough mixture into a ball and leave it to rest. Roll out the dough on a floured surface (dust with flour, too, if it's sticky) to about 5mm thick.
Cut out discs with a cookie cutter (I use a 6cm one). Place on the baking trays and bake for 20 minutes, then turn and bake for a further five to 10 minutes. Cool on a rack. Store in an airtight container.
I use instant oat cereal instead of flour. Not sure if you want to put that into the recipe.business mortgage £0))''(+ Barclay's business kitchen loan £0=Total paid off was £96105 PPI claimed and received £13527

ALTERNATIVES ARTICLE 2 – SUGGESTIONS COPIED FROM SKYPE-CHAT
(aless02): on the breadsticks.,..maybe an extra sentence on method as a clueless bread newbie probably wouldn't know where to start
(HWolf): the bit about putting the leftovers in a pasty - might also be nice in bread dough as a calzone - I think allegra does this with hers
(aless02): [Tortillas] are v good baby food
(HWolf): oooo you could suggest a tortilla pizza as a quick snack
(HWolf): or if you cut them into triangles and fry them they become tortilla chips
(aless02): quesadillas!!
(aless02): [pitta crisps]- cut it up and bake it to hard pita crisps. really yummy
(aless02): pittas are another thing to make with bread dough
(poohbear): Have you thought of oatcakes as an alternative to porridge. My lot love them but I have to admit that because they need turning during baking they are a bit of a pain to make.
(HWolf): what about scone bases for things as an alternative
(HWolf): home made crackers are really nice with black onion seeds (kalonji) addedSealed pot member 735

A couple of jobs are going now which will help Weezl finalise and publish Kitty's planner - if anyone has time and energy to spare to help with these, it would help a great deal and speed up Kitty's publication date.
If you fancy having a go at any of the following, let us know, and further instructions, if needed, will follow:
Task One: calculating the five-a-day information for Kitty's planner. You need to be able to read a spreadsheet for this, which Weezl will need to send to you, so if you volunteer for this task and Weezl hasn't got your email, please PM me your email addy and I will pass it on
Task Two: this can take input of more than one person, so anyone with a moment to spare, please take a look and then let us know your thoughts, either here or via Skype or PM if you prefer. The task is to look at the planner page of CFR: http://www.cheap-family-recipes.org.uk/planners.html and give some thought to how it should read once the other planner is up - we need to make it super-clear for a newbie which planner to use depending on which is their non-negotiable
Task Three: this is again for everyone who visits, reads and posts - we would like another alternatives article, as we have so many suggestions that the original article would be unwieldy if they were all added to it - hopefully pinkhayley might want to compile this one as well, so Hayles, please let us know if this is not possible for you.0 -
potty thank you for your calcium research
each can containing 1g of calcium chloride means that the can contains 361 mg of calcium (although someone will need to check this because Mr weezl's chemistry is a little rusty!)
so the 7 cans in shirl's planner could give them a whole days worth of the calcium they require.
Which is actually quite good news

I have read the HMRC site on what food stuffs are VAT attracting and which have a zero-rate (to see if shirl's/kitty's list will go up in price in January)
Amazingly, due to our non-processed and made from scratch nature of the shopping, I think (although not studied it in too much detail yet!) that the only item affected will be the nuts. So shirl's list MAY suffer a 2p price hike in Jan.
Not blinkin bad eh?
Just as a comparator, if shirl was spending £2 a week on crisps for the kids lunches and £2 a week on cereal bars, her shopping's just gone up a tenner a year just on those two items  (I mean a tenner's not much at all, but there's a lot of stuff at standard rate VAT!)

Hi all
I just wanted to let you know that I stumbled across this thread (can't even remember how) and have read enough to be very impressed with the amount of work and dedication you have all put into this. I am prob not your target audience as I don't have to watch the pennies so much any more, but the meal planner, lack of waste, preparing ahead and nutritional analysis all appealed. I made the onion tart tonight, and it was very good, and 3 more meals-worth to go in the freezer.
I'm sorry I haven't read the whole thread, but was just wondering if you had thought about how you were going to publicise this? Have you spoken to anyone in Defra or FSA about it?0 -
Okay vegan pea soup + biscuits, i can't find the recipe on cfr.
I'm buying the parsnips tomorrow so i would be able test it out then.
Do any of the other test recipes need doing?
will also make the tortillas tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
see you tomorrow x0
