He should be ok if it's that high. Especially as I didn't notice the liver originally. Heme iron (animal-based foods) is more easily absorbed so he should be good.0

Joel's recipe challenge competition!
roll up roll up!
OK in the past some of you have been lovely enough to suggest recipes for shirl and kitty, but I haven't been able to explain the parameters or refit your recipes back into the planners as I'd gone too far...:(
So I thought I'd do it differently this time:D and invite you all to be part of the next bit I usually do- so here we go, design one full day's eating for our family of 4 using these ingredients (and your day needs to use them all up, nothing leftover!):
grana padano 6g
salted peanuts 32g
Frozen spinach 65g
tinned tomatoes 168g
tom puree 9g
potatoes 1210g
SP raisins 65g
chick peas 81g
veg oil 97g
SP sr flour 223g
red lentils 16g
green lentils 48g
liver 39g
The above amounts are for all 4 people, ie 302.5g potato per person
You also need to build in to your day:
4.5 slices of bread per person, (5 for men 4 for women.)
1 piece of carrot pudding
(all measures are in grams)
In addition, you need to choose one of the following 3 things for your family to eat:
120g flour per person (as tortillas, pastry, lasagne sheets!)
105g rice per person 125g pasta per person
best of luck:rotfl:
I am assuming you have access to the following: chilli, salt, garlic powder, vinegar.

Nut and raisin breakfast pancakes?
Liver pate sandwiches??
Everything else stew/curry with pasta/rice/dumplings?!?!?!
I suspect that isn't actually edible but flippin heck this recipe making is hard! I'm filled with (even more) admiration for you weezl.0 -
Well that ingredient list is screaming curries at me but I'm afraid the liver puts me right off.
peanuts+raising+vegoil+ flour = cookies
tinned toms+lentils+herbs+granpadano+ pasta = pasta and sauce for lunch
everything else except the liver = curry for tea
bread + god knows what for brekkieSealed pot member 735

Re: the day's menu plan and recipes. Do you really want to include some of absolutely everything in the day's menu plan? Wouldn't it be better to stagger the ingredients (one day red lentils, the next chickpeas, the next liver)? Partly for the sake of palatability and variety, but also from the point of view of making the most of your ingredients. It doesn't seem sensible to include 6g of grana padano (less than 1/4 ounce) in anything -- nobody will taste their 1.5g share. It would be better from the menu-planning point of view to save it up and have (say) 50g between you once a week. Then it could be a feature in its own right and people would appreciate it more. That's what I do with expensive ingredients, anyway -- make the most of them as the centrepiece of a meal, even if in restricted quantities, rather than frittering them away in unnoticeable trickles so that nobody feels the benefit. Just a thought. Feel free to ignore it! :-)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Goodness me this is a difficult task
So much admiration for you Weezl. Have no idea how you come up with all of this.
Will keep on having a think about what could be made using the ingredients...
Howlin Wolf, I will definitely investigate borrowing one from library, definitely worth a go! Thanks :AMoney paid out from Topcashback so far= £105.89 :j

roll up roll up!
BREAKFAST
~ half of bread allowance
~ spread made of raisins soaked in boiling water then drained and pureed
LUNCH:
~ half of bread allowance
~ soup made of half the tinned tomatoes, the spinach, red lentils, water, salt, all cooked then blitzed to make a thin soup
~ liver dumplings (pureed liver, garlic, salt, self-raising flour, 40g oil, water to mix) cooked in soup
EVENING MEAL:
~ peanut potato cakes (cooked potatoes mashed, then mixed with cooked green lentils, salt, garlic and 25g vegetable oil; make into small cakes; press one side of each into crushed peanuts, trying to share the peanuts out equally; take 15ml oil and use some to grease oven tray then drizzle the rest on the potato cakes; bake in oven, with peanut side upwards
~ tortillas (used to wrap up the potato cakes for serving, like a kebab or a wrap -- keep a couple back to make Snack 1 below)
~ sauce made of remaining tinned tomatoes, tomato puree, a splash of vinegar, chilli, all boiled up to cook the chilli powder and reduce to a suitable consistency for drizzling in the wraps
SNACK 1:
Roast the cooked chickpeas with chilli, and make tortilla crisps out of cut-up leftover tortillas from the evening meal, using 15g oil between the two snacks and sprinkling the grated grana padano on the tortilla crisps, all with salt as desired
SNACK 2 (or pudding after one of the meals):
Carrot pudding, if it's a sweet-ish thing. Otherwise, would have to rethink.
An awful lot of cooking involved, and terribly stodgy, but at least it uses everything up! :-)This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
