Peanut advice was to do with allergies but they rescinded the advice last August as it didn't appear to make a difference, most people ignored the advice, and even though it was targetted only at those with family history of allergies, uptake of the advice was the same for everyone else as for the target group.

I assumed that was the case, I'm off nuts as DH is allergic. And I love nuts of all kinds so have been missing them loads. I just saw the data I was capturing and wondered.

    morag!

    Aha the weezl pounces :)

would you be willing to write something for the site about cooking methods for best retention of nutrients?

I also think it'd be good to include tips like keeping the rice/potato water for your bread batches, as this has the doubly thrifty benefit of winning back lots of lost nutrients, as well as making the starches in the bread stronger and therefore giving the dough a better rise.

Sorry weezl, this isn't something I know a fat lot about and I don't have any spare time to research it properly atm. My DD and SIL are taking career breaks and going round the world shortly and it's a bit manic here

If no one else volunteers for this I'll have a crack at it, but probably not in the next fortnight at least.

    Morning all

I am shattered as we have a fire alarm here at 2 this morning. That means you have to get up/dressed and leave the building. We were outside for nearly an hour and now I am so tired.

Dont know how mummies do it with babies????? I can barely get dressed this morning. Off to work (probably not going to be very productive though) see you laterxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Oh mr arty is getting his results later so I will let you know how he gets on! I'm so nervous but he seems pretty chilled out...

Arty, I thought the very same thing when I was pregnant. It's amazing what your body will cope with when it has no other choice! IYSWIM...

It is on there, something like veg oil, canola from what I remember. Need to search for veg oil I think. Hope that helps.

When you're next around I wonder if you can advise on some more B12 info?

Do you remember how we figured b12 couldn't be water soluble and needed every day cos of that thing about it being stored for 6-20yrs?

well the FSA have published this which weirdly seems to contradict! I'm perplexed, cos I totally follow your logic and trust you, but this govt site should theoretically be very accurate...

Also I discovered via polkadot's spreadsheet that peanuts are very high in b12, so we might not need the expensive yeast extract for Kitty, YAY! :j:j:j

    Hiah,

I think it was on the vegsoc site from what I remember. A lot of sites contradict the b12 thing. All B vits seem to get put together wheareas B12 and possible one more not sure are stored to be used.
From all the info I have read, there may be items that show up as having B12 in them, when in fact they are B12 analogues. I think its a case of years ago there where things that they thought contained B12 like mushroom, spirilina and possible nuts I guess, have now been found to contain B12 analogues, so no B12 that is available to the body. I would like to think B12 was in nuts, would make it far easier. All I can say is I trust the vegetarian and vegan society info and wouldn't take the risk.
