I don't know if this would help your current musings, but would you like me to post a typical week's menu for DD's primary school?

:owell it's probably not me making huge steps towards getting kitty finished off, but I think I would like to allow myself a bit of light relief, so yes please! :DThat would be very interesting! (and I promise this is all in pursuit of helping shirl/kitty)

A random week's menu from an Essex county council school:

Monday Yorkshire pudding filled with savoury mince OR baked souffle potato, mixed vegetables or salad selection, chocolate rice crispy cake

Tuesday Sticky chicken drumsticks OR vegetable curry both served with savoury rice, mixed vegetables or salad selection, jam roly poly with custard

Wednesday Local roast gammon with Yorkshire pudding in gravy OR roasted vegetable tart, roast potatoes, sprouts & carrots or salad selection, ice cream sponge roll

Thursday Meatballs in HM tomato sauce OR HM pizza, potato wedges, baked beans or salad selection, fresh fruit salad

Friday Crispy breaded fish fingers OR vegetable rosti, chipped potatoes, sweetcorn or salad selection, apple crumble with custard

It adds at the bottom, fresh salad & a choice of fresh fruit or yoghurt everyday, with fresh milk or water also available.

does DD always have the fruit and all her friends or is it an optional thing if the children want it?

I'll check with DD when she is home (about an hour), but the impression I have is when they did the free fruit initiative & gave out a piece of fruit at morning break all the children had it. But now it is tagged on to lunch they don't bother!

what's the uptake on school meals and what percentage are getting them because their families are in receipt of wtc?
I believe you can't get them if you get WTC - a bit like the Healthy Start vouchers.

    ah:o

    I'm so clueless!

So who gets free school meals then?

I think that might be incorrect, Susan - DD's friend gets free school meals, and her mum is working and in receipt of wtc - so it can't be just income support (or whatever that's called nowadays) and jobseeker's.
