morag/aless/anyone who thought 'recipes' should contain all shirley's recipes, all kitty's and all our enticing shirley in recipes (approximately 100-150 in total). I like your idea, but as with everything with a website, it creates other quandries we must work round.:)
Please can you have a think about the following quandry:
there would be 2/3 very similar but not identical versions of the same recipe, which would be confusing?
ie if you went for the first time to a website for recipes and their index looked like this, would it not be a bit strange:
breakfast pancakes ???
breakfast pancakes plan1 (why? box - use this recipe if you are following plan1 because it maximises your ingredients)
breakfast pancakes plan2 (why? box - use this recipe if you are following plan because it maximises your ingredients2 )
to me, that seems as though we made it, thought it was a bit rubbish, so had another go! Which isn't what we're saying!
Also how does the user know which of them to pick?
quandry 2:
150 rows of recipes will look very daunting all shown at once and would mean A LOT of horizontal scrolling. Will the user get daunted and immediately bounce away? Use the recipe 1st page to link to 'breakfast' 'lunch' 'meals' and 'snacks' pages. Put general explanation on this page " we have brought together over 150 tried and tested cheap but delicious recipes for 4 people, which can easily be adapted to suit .........
(long contents pages have been shown to create an immediate 'bounce' away from the page. Caused by option paralysis.)
I'd very much appreciate as many people's thoughts as poss before I decide which way to gook being a bit more brainstormy,
first lets think of all the different shirleys and then we'll buil it to best fit the ones we can.
I'll start, and then others chip in as many different types of user we can think of:
1) I'm in a fix and want something cheap for my family for dinner tonight, I'm surfing the net at lunchtime to see what I have to buy on my way home. This user will just want to hit recipes and get a list of dinners to choose from.
2) My family like pizza and I'm too broke to buy dominoes so I chuck 'cheap family recipe homemade pizza' into google. Would expect to find it in recipe list, would probably not look in the plans.
3) I bought a butternut squash cos it was whoopsied and now have no idea what to make with it. Would expect to find it in recipe list, would probably not look in the plans.
4) I am an MSE user who's just had a LBM and now wants to completely reduce monthly shopping. Would look at site carefully, especially plans and probably jump right in.
5) I am a non MSE user who's just had a LBM and now wants to completely reduce monthly shopping. Would look at site carefully, especially plans and probably jump right in.
6) I am MSE/non MSE and due to completely unforeseen circs now have £3.54 to last me 18 days and I have some random weird things in my freezer but not much.
Would look at site carefully, recipes and plans and probably choose from both.
Hope this helps?Murphy was an optimist!!!0 -

I do the same. I also thank when there is something to thank and don't if I do not like something or sometimes I just plain forget.
I don't think I will be joining the chat. I don't do facebook and am really busy these days which is why I mostly just read.
I am making a nappy stash for my middle daughters' baby and as they are shaped ones they take more work. She is using them and even lent her neighbour a couple so now the neighbour wants me to look out on freecycle for some for her, slowly slowly the frugal lifestyle is getting there. They are being made from t./shirts,old sheets and fleece baby blankets with a washable shower curtain and some other waterproof nylon stuff that I think originally were the sails of a boat. When I have got the making up part good I am thinking of buying the "proper" fabrics to see if they would sell.

that's absolutely fine grandma, please don't anyone feel any pressure to join in, I just didn't want anyone to feel hurt because they'd like to feel part of the team but weren't included

I only have 2 loaf tins. Can I make 2 in tins and shape the other 2 or is it best to just make 2.
