    that is very interesting.

Part of how I understand and define you is due to your spending (in the sense that I form an idea of everyone however remotely or virtually I 'know' them). I think we are probably saying quite a similar thing, because I would describe it as a minor part, but not quite as small as a very minor part. Does that make sense?

Like one of the constructs I have for you is 'frugal' but it is not as big as 'thoughtful and careful with language'. And of course there are some of the constructs I have for you which are overlapping, but which might include spending, like 'a parent who cares a lot about child safety so would invest in a high quality well researched car seat', IYSWIM?
Yes it does make sense. Since we are on a moneysaving forum, we are more likely to talk about moneysaving because it is a common interest and that is what the forum is here for so I imagine we all (as in everyone here) probably view that as being a more siginificant part of the lives of people on here than it is because the conversation is skewed by the nature of the forum. A bit like if you went to a swimming club you would likely spend a higher proportion of time talking to the people there about swimming. Or if you go to a mother and baby club you spend a disproportionate amount of time talking about babies.

It's quite interesting the three things you have mentioned because I think with regard to money, it is not so much being frugal per se that is important to me but making sure that I have spent the money wisely and appropriately (although I guess in effect the outworking of this is generally being frugal) and so I try to think carefully about how I spend it. This means I wouldn't generally buy pre-made yoghurt because it seems wasteful for me to do so when I have the capacity and ability to make it for much less but I will willingly spend money on something like an expensive carseat because I believe it to be the best/safest.

NB: I'm not saying everyone should be making their own yoghurt - time and work/effort are also considerations as well as money and the relative balance of these considerations will depend on an individuals circumstances. (As will how much they enjoy doing it.)

yep, I think if asked that's what I would have said was the reason for you being on MSE :) (obviously, you're the expert on you, I just mean, I know enough to have guessed that part too!)

Can I be all on topicy again and ask if anyone is out there who made the tomato scones, I'm in need of some help for kitty :)

Weezl, my take on what you were saying about Jamie earlier is that you think that if someone makes a recipe by a famous cook with what they perceive as "good quality" ingredients and it goes wrong they sort of write it off and continue making recipes from the book or blame their own cooking skill.

I think you are worried that if Shirley makes a recipe from the website with value ingredients (which she might perceive as being lower or poor quality) and it goes wrong that she will blame the recipe/ingredients give up on the whole project and continue to spend herself into oblivion.

If that's what you think I have to say I agree and think you might have a point. But I think that you and the team are working to tackle that and I think that you are giving Shirl enough tips, well tested (and in some cases amended) recipes so that she can cope and hopefully stick with it.

I think it would be unrealistic to expect every shirley who comes across the site to stick with the programme. Even Jamie and the delightful Hugh have not achieved total buy in and stick-with-it-ness for their plans and I think this was demonstrated in both of their programmes.

Some people will give up. But you should not see that as a failure in the plan or a failure in you. Some people do just give up on things, I know that I do and sometimes things are just too difficult for people or they come at the wrong time in their life and they can't cope with it. For every Shirley that has a failure and quits there will be ten shirley's who continue to learn how to fish. Those are the Shirley's that you are helping and have to concentrate on.

Sorry if that totally missed the point but it's just what I think.

How about a nice red and yellow flag on a stick ? Then you can wave it at random moments thinking someone might be offside

pinkhayley, what about the above suggestion?

Will add it to the article :) My exam is on Monday and so I will be free to crack on with getting it finished after then, hope that is ok with everyone.

You have been very busy bees today, only just catching up now. You have talked about some really interesting things and it has made very interesting reading, that's for sure :)

Arty- You mentioned you were a bit younger than some of the other posters here. Out of interest how old are you if you don't mind me asking? (Obviously, you don't have to answer, I'm just curious because I imagine I'm a little bit younger than some of the others on here too).

Is that Shirl's tomato scones ? If so, I have done, and ask away.
