Hi everyone.
I'm not sure the lunch critisism is justified. When you take lunch to work or buy from the sadwich van, I think most people have 4 or 5 things they eat most of the time. For Kitty and Shirley that's going to be the same, with the same opportunity to add variety by eating left overs when there are any.
The only other variety that might be easy to add is melba toasts ( bread, toasted then split in half and toast the insides till crispy), they might make a yummy accompanyment to the houmous varieties. I know she could make pitas or tortillas to break up the butty boredom, but that's a lot more work.
I cant test the melba suitableness of the bread I'm afraid as we dont get oaty stuff here.Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0 -

pinkhayley, please can we add the melba toasts idea to the alternatives article, and very sorry about this, but could you also repost where you were saying some other things you thought could do with more alternatives?
I got immersed in another task and now can't find it again!

Nut Butter
cell R4 needs changing to 1/6 from 1/3
there are no slices of bread in the ingreds for this - is that deliberate? The previous planner had bread included
tried a new thing today, Granola. The recipe uses all sorts of stuff, some of which I missed out, and if it was frugalised right down to oats, oil , sugar and raisins, it would be 7.6p/100g dry weight, or 3.8p per 50g serving. Problem for a planner comes when wanting milk to put on it, at 125ml per serving, UHT semi skimmed is another 6.2p. Still, at 10p per breakfast, it is frugal enough for me, and it is very yummy0 -

Yes I'll pop it into the article now.
Can I just ask whether the croation potato salad is an alternative for planner 1 or 3? Thanks.
I think we are fairly well covered now for variations, Weezl. Does anyone have variations for the following though?
The snacks
Chilli
Cottage Pie
The savoury puddings
Rice salads
The sandwich spreads
Breakfast pancakes
Omelette
Thank youMoney paid out from Topcashback so far= £105.89 :j

you're right, yes, it should be 2 slices per person per meal

rice salads can be served hot and made runnier with more hot stock and served as a risotto on a colder day.
the puddings can be pies with thinner pastry and oven-baked.
if she has any spare flour for pastry, the omelette ingreds could become a flan filling

potato salad is an extra for either planner 1 or 3, so can be in both. Shirl will need to 'borrow a little raw onion (10g per person) from either the chilli or onion tart

Am I making the changes on my version Lesley?
you're right, yes, it should be 2 slices per person per meal
depends if you want to keep tweaking it while I sort out the portions
have put 48 slices of bread in now. quite happy to change this one and ping it back
Hummus look like the next one. Nine uses, with 4 portions per time is 36 portions, there are 168 slices of bread, how many slices are there per portion, 168 doesn't seem to fit
is this ok, doing 1 at a time, or do you want to tell me all the ones you are having a problem with?0
