Lesley I'll happily ping you the sheet. It would really help if we could agree that at a time where you have a little space for it as I'm making tweaks and referencing it a lot, so I'd like to be able to pause it for as short a window as is ok with you, but not in a hurrying you way IYSWIM?!

foraging is another way to add variety with no extra cost.

Why not make your apple curd with windfalls you spy on your way to work?

Or use wild garlic in your homemade hummus?

Or try adding a few tender nettle tops to your potato and onion soup- they are packed with protein.

Or use harvested blackberries growing wild locally to make a jam for your doughnuts/sweet rolls (planner 3) or stir them through your squash mix for a fruity butternut squah tart (with an interesting colour!)

Ok I'll stop now I feel I'm chatting away to myself about nonsense :o:D

Never mind being all creative and helpful with your variety tips. Where's the photo so I can go to bed ? :-P. (Had to stay up to talk to house sale solicitor ).

Young dandelion leaves are also tasty and edible and can be added to salads, the sag aloo or steamed as a green veg :-P

Elderberries and elder flowers are both edible and make tasty jams and cordials.

If you're unsure about wild foods, your library will lend you a book for free to help you.

Oh and today in the thrift store they had some free books, so I now own, "home canning" which is a slim volume from way back when. Anyways, the point being, the book says you can pickle the seed heads of nasturtiums to make fake caper berries. Sounds nom to me, unfortunately I haven't grown any nasturtiums :-(.

(it's the perfect thrift store book, it has recipes carefully clipped from ancient newspapers, handwritten recipes in the back and some margins and, at some point, someone has taken the time to re bind it using string, when at some point in ancient history the staples gave up the ghost. I cant imagine even us frugal folks doing that today!!)

  • Thank You :-D. Glad he likes it. I think you'll find that as a parent of boys, dinosaur cookie cutters are, in fact, one of life's essentials :-D.

Off to bed now, hope you're feeling better today.

ps it will of course, now be sunny everyday until he has out grown it, nothing like knitting a hat to ensure sunshine !
