Allegra, finicky point, but you've got 15 serves of porridge and I've got 16, (first and last days and every other day of a 31 day month)

might be worth just tweaking that in case it confuses anyone :A

You say, I do, Weezl ;) No telling me to jump off a cliff tho' :naughty: It's only cos I can't count anyway :p

You reminded me that I never said why I am doing this challenge. I'll try and do so when I get back on this afternoon - for now I'm off to go charity shopping for clothes with DD. Wish me luck

Ok so all my shopping is here and im off to batch cook. With the bread-i only need to make one loaf so im quatering everything but keeping the same amount of yeast??

Also when it says to warm the flour at the beginning how long would you do that for?

kezlou, I ran your query about dried fruit past DH who is a dentist.

He uderstands your point about dried fruit because it can stay longer on the teeth, but feels that fresh fruit is no better dentally spaking because you need to factor in the effects of acid erosion if you give your child fresh fruit instead. Basically all fruit is pretty similar because the sticky ones (raisins bananas etc) are cariogenic (can cause caries) but the others (oranges for example) cause acid erosion.

So ideally you eat it with meals and have a drink after your meal if you can't clean your teeth.

I hope that helps, its also quite money saving advice cos dried fruit is loads cheaper!

with 5 slices a day arty you could make 2 without them going off before you've eaten them. Just trying to save you work! But yes, it's bst not to reduce the yeast :)

Savoury bites in the oven...eldest DD very excited about trying them!

DS woke up, didn't want porridge, doesn't like raisins...blah, blah, blah!

I made him have some.....'what kind of raisins are these, these are nice', 'this porridge is ok'....

    Boys...nightmare!

    Hornetgirl asked about leftover onion.

As I only cook for one, use what I need from a chopped onion and freeze the rest. I keep a bag in the freezer and just add to it and then I can use the amount needed straight from frozen.

that's a really good idea Jenny, thanks :)

Allegra, can we include a line in the fab batch cooking blurb to talk about freezing chopped stuff specially for shirley's cooking for 1 or 2, incorporating Jenny's tip? And by we, I mean, erm....you!

Hope shopping was good and I look forward with interest to read what motivated you to get on board with this plan?

Jenny how are your motivation levels?

It'd be very handy if you didn't mind sharing how easy/hard it has been to adapt these things to cooking for 1 :)

It occurs to me that none of us have the exact bob and shirl family size and ages, so we are proving (?)it's adaptability! I'm happy to write a bit about adapting it for very little children if people feel that is of use?
