Frankie if you fancy the porridge it is really easy to do for 1 person i did it this morning i have to admit with a bit of trepidation cause i was not a porridge fan but it is lovely i think the hot oat cereal makes it slightly less like the porridge i grew up to hate and the raisins give it a bit of texture worth trying for yourself.

    Hi Weezl

Can we have the cooking insructions for the Cream of Tomato Soup please.

Not clear if we have to make up Milk Powder or use it neat.

    Thanks
    Jenny

Hiya jenny :) Ummmm :o which planner are you using m'dear, I wonder if I have left a misleading linkie somewhere which has perplexed you :( sorry if I have! Allegra posted the current lists a little while back, I'll linkie to them now from post 1 of this thread. The recipes you are using are still frugal and healthy they just mightn't all fit together into one coherent month that's all!:)

can you describe what you did allegra in case you've hit on a better method than mine? :)

I followed your method exactly, Weezl (for once - I usually fiddle with stuff, with often rather interesting results). The only difference, if you can call it that, is that I have a fan oven so had to adjust the temperature and cooking times - so I cooked it on 160 C for about 40 minutes. It still felt very squidgy to touch, but was just beginning to "give" - I wouldn't have wanted it to stay in any longer as I think that would have made the top too hard.

I think this must be just a taste issue - I have just discovered that I am a fan of hot oaty cereal, which could account for it. I hate normal porridge - but having just had a bowl made to your recipe, with hot oaties added, I thought it was gorgeous :)

Scones are good too, though. If the public vote tends against the hot oaty biscuits, strike them off. I'll just adjust the batches I make to allow for the fact that I used up som stocks in the biscuit already.

    Ohhhh, wouldn't that be nice ! Or a walk-in larder.....[/QUOTE]
My mum has a walk in cupboard that she stores some of her food in there but i am sure she sometimes hears that there will be a shortage of things like beans cause you go in there and there are 8 tins on the shelf and then i find a carrier bag with another 6 in it (she couldnt remember is she had any) There is only her in the house!!!!!! I am the one who sorts things out otherewise heaven knows what would be in there. Sometimes it is better to have a smaller amount of space and know what you have than a huge area that you can never find stuff. i know the grass is always greener and all that. I suppose if she was better organised it would be easier but i think we could have world peace before that could ever happen.:rotfl:

Thanks for the heads-up on the porridge. I will definitely be doing it tomorrow and will try to get a portion cooked for DH before he leaves for his course.

weezl I can't think of any deal-breakers and like others I have some back up in the freezer. I just mention things as they come up because it would seem that my family are the most difficult ;) and we may get a Bob and Shirley who have the same difficulties to overcome...but please don't get worried or change anything :)
It's all-good here in the Frankie household.

I have had 2 pieces of my homemade bread as toast this morning with the nutty butter and even though it had been in the fridge it was very easy to spread and I didn't notice the lack of marg/butter. QUOTE]

Having grown up in a peanut butter on toast loving family, we have never had marg/butter under peanut butter. Whether unintentional or maybe my mothers attempt to be frugal even way back then, she clearly had us well trained! :)

I'm glad the porridge is going down well. I was soooooo nervous about that! Shanks it's kinda smoother than regular porridge isn't it?

I tried a batch of savory scones this morning which DH and my mum like :D

will just compile my feedback and get back to you all :)

weezl Are the scones moist? We have never eaten scones without a spread on. Happy to give it a go, though :)
