rainbow, wow! you are going to read the other thread too? See you next year!about the calories, I do have all the info in a spreadsheet, but it's the one that controls all the stock levels too, so I think it would make your head fry! If you said which of the meals or snacks you'd like a cal count for, I shall look it up for you?
[/QUOTE]
LOL - I'll be reading a few pages a day, so should keep my fingers out of the cookie jar! :rotfl:
There wasn't anything specific I wanted calorie counts for, it's just that I'm a very-big-girl who would like to be a bit-smaller-big-girl, and it would just be interesting to see if I lose weight following the plan, and how/if it fluctuates through the month and which foods were highest and lowest...etc. No matter, it was just out of interest.0 -
The majority of winter potatoes eaten in the uk are grown in the desert in Egypt. There is no nutrient in the sand, and no water, so twice a day, water is pumped from a depth of 50 Nelson's columns, has fertiliser added and the potatoes are irrigated. Potatoes aren't indigenous to Egypt, so the seed potatoes have originally come from scotland. Potatoes don't travel well on their 3 week trip to the uk from egypt, they bump together too. So they have to be buried in nice wet peat. From Egypt? nope, from Ireland EIRE.
 So they're also practically non-nutritous, having not been able to draw normally from the ground...!!! !!!!!!, no wonder we're a nation of obese yet vitamin-deficient diabetics, with practices like these...!0 -
5 a day - I'd say stick to the 5 a day for Shirley, because she may not have even been getting that before the plan. Perhaps note (for her) that if she's growing her own or has access to free veg or fruit (maybe then link to a page/site about foraging/starting a windowbox veg patch??) then having more than her 5 a day is perfectly fine as long as she's having it AS WELL as the plan, not INSTEAD OF?
Does that make sense?0 -
My gut feeling is that five a day is absolutely fine, but in the spirit of "teaching them how to fish" people should be encouraged to grow their own, even if it is just a few herbs and salad leaves in pots on the windowsill. I firmly believe - with no scientifc evidence to back this up, of course :rotfl:- that something you pull out of the ground yourself minutes before you'll eat it must be far better for you nutritionally than a far greater quantity of something that has been transported halfway around the world weeks before it reaches your table.0

twinkle_star wrote: »Edit: actually what I'm saying is the five a day is irrelevant as long as you're getting all the relevant nutrients. It was just set up as a guideline (and they picked it out of thin air).
As they did the recommended alcohol limits :think:0 -

Hi everyone glad there is no lynch mob waiting for me. Just back from Asda and their SP beans are now 42p per tin:eek:. Lidl are doing 4 for £1 as a promo just now so going to get some of them. Chopped toms are 35p each but the Asda ones are 3 for £1. Also dont know if it is just mine but Asda were selling their pack of yeast 6x7g for half price which made them 34p a pack so needless to say i have stocked up and wont need to buy for a very long time. A lot of "crap" things like sweets, biscs etc have gone down since the last time i shopped but good things like the beans, tuna etc have gone up a fair bit.
Away to put away shopping then making apple curd, hummous, meat loaf and pizza so that should keep me busy for a while.
Weezl the recipes containing hot oat cereal are
Porridge
Cottage pie
Veggie burgers
3x Scones
Raisin biscs
savoury bites
That is all i can see from the planner
Hope that makes up for my earlier nit picking:)0 -
Have you tried adding spices to it? I can't stand plain houmous (but I like the individual ingredients too) but love the flavoured stuff! :j Could you try adding some garam masala or chilli? Or adding some caramalised onions? Corriander is good too but it is not on any of the shopping lists!
Re hommus I cant stand theplain version but add some sun dried toms and leave out the garlic and its scrummy! Not on the list I know but should work as a substitute...curry powder (in small ammts!) should also be yummy...may try that next and will report back!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! How much do people feel it is important/helpful/essential etc for shirley/kitty's plans to go above the 5 a day?
Or do people feel 'just' 5 a day is right?hornetgirl wrote: »I think 5 a day is fine. It's a concept that people are used to hearing about, even if they don't do it.
I think more than 5 a day would be good, although, I think Hornetgirl is right, in that, 5 that is the magic number that has been banded about, and the general public know about this.0
