Weezl and friends Phase 2 -giving it a whirl for Shirl! Testing meal plan for a month
Comments
-
IE - yes - pale grey.
Saag aloo gobi has 100g red lentils in the ingredients, but nothing in the method about what to do with them.0 -
right!
Well, let's have a project summary, to cheer ourselves up
on the 6th of Feb, we began.
No recipes tested, no nutrition researched, no photos, no meal plans, no shopping lists, no website, and no team.
We now have all of the above and the site has over 500 unique users. We also know you can live it for a month without turning a funny colour
My Dad has been a web developer for many years and is quietly very chuffed, since this is the first time he's seen this happen to a new site.
Massively well done everyone, I really feel we are making a difference:D:beer::beer::beer::beer::beer::beer:

sorry Jenny, I thought I was meant to bring that one in line with tomato olive pudding as they were more similar in texture and people liked that description? Or am I going bonkers?!
Are you a detail person in your job? You must be brilliant at it
No you not going bonkers.
Its just that the method still says rub fat into flour until crumbly instead of stir oil into flour if that makes sense.
I'm retired now, but I love reading and was always a good at spelling.

Quick de-lurk!
I have followed this from the beginning & think it is absolutely fabulous! And I have been pointing people in your direction.
In answer to the earlier question – IE/yes/light grey.
One tiny thing; on the ‘Planners – Month 1 – Shopping List’, one of the sub-headings is ‘diary’ & I am thinking that this should be ‘dairy’.
Thanks for all your hard work.0 -
IE -yes - pale grey
With regard to the "size" of cooking utensils ect...
Could you not say what size you used, just to give a rough guide ?0 -

ABSOLUTELY! Well done everyone :T
Don't know if you still want input on the line between Method & Ingredients, but mine is:
IE/yes/very pale grey
Google Chrome/yes/very pale grey
And yes, I think it should be kept
This is only a suggestion - and I'm sure you or your Dad already know this - but, as an example, in your bread recipe the amount of water required is written like so:
about 2 1/4 pts very warm water but if you were to use the Alt Code 0188 it could appear like this: about 2¼ pts very warm water which is easier to read.
Gotta hold my hands up and say I know diddly squat about web designso I don't know how easy it would be to incorporate Alt Codes for any fractions you may have in your recipes. But just in case it's any help, the Alt Code for ¼ is 0188, for ½ is 0189 and for ¾ is 0190

I also mentioned this earlier, and understood the thinking behind your reply Weezl, but, if, for example you state you used a 2lb Loaf Tin & Shirley only had a 11b Loaf Tin, you then at least give her the choice of amending the amount of ingredients accordingy, or making two batches IYSWIMAug11 £193.29/£240

Weezl, Saag Aloo Gobi should be called Saag Aloo, as gobi means cauliflower, which this dish - mercifully - does not contain
Anyway, now I know it's safe for me to eat, I have it on my mealplan for next week. We had panzanella on the plan for tonight until I went to hunt down the recipe and realised how tomato-heavy it was, which necessitated a sudden change of plan
It was replaced by a lasagna from the freezer, from the recipe on your blog, but with HM lasagne sheets.
One word: nom ! And another word: filling0 -

I too think this is essential. Put a disclaimer on every time, by all means - something like "you do not need to rush out and buy new tin, you'll still be able to make the cake if you only have a smaller/bigger tin, but if you make the carrot cake in a tin this size, it'll easily slice into 32 rectangles" or whatever. But as Shirley will probably have several tins lurking at the back of the cupboard, let her know which size to use - and if she has no tins, we don't want her going out and buying the wrong size, now do we ?0
