Hi
oh dear..
after spending all day yesterday painting my daughters bedroom...standing back and admiring my handy work..I checked on it today to find the paint is crazed...tiny little crazings all over the surface of the wall...my daughter says it looks cool!...but I think its awful
I think I may have been a little impatient and painted on the second coat too early...anyone know how to remedy this?....thanks
I have a horrible feeling that it is a strip down to the wall job

When you say "crazing" is it cracked or just the way it looks after adhering?0 -

I think what you have done is applied the paint with a roller and not "rolled it enough times" The paint has probably "sagged" due to the amount you have put on. Put another layer on, and this time roll it more times until the paint is smooth.... Hope this makes sence.0 -
Plasterer
its tiny little cracks that make it look like crazy paving...not big cracks across the wall
if you stand back you can't notice it that much...but its very noticable closer up
I used Matt emulsion...I think the paint before that was Silk...maybe that has something to do with it?0 -
thanks plasterer...I will try that...as yes I did use a roller...and probably put too much on...
ps..having said that...where I cut in with the brush has longer cracks near the borders...ie not crazed0 -

Oh no, sorry Waxie youve had a bit of a nightmare. I wont plaster onto silk paint as unfortunately the wetness pulls the silk away (like a sheet of thin rubber) When using matt onto silk you need to abrade the wall with a sandpaer blockthen paint. I fear that you may have to start again, sanding it back. However I am a plasterer and not a decorator, perhaps the decs out there can help?

OOPS - yes this is the silk (coming back to life) with the moisture of the matt, unfortunatelly it is peeling away from the wall
Any decs out there that has another sollution I (and I think Waxie) would appreciate the knowledge0 -
can be lots of reasons.
silicone in the air gives the same problem. only remedy is to strip it all off, seal the wall and start again.
various chemical reactions, in painting, give similar problems.Get some gorm.0 -
|I had the same problem in my kitchen and bathroom, unfortunatly the only remedy i came up with wash taking it back to the original caot as possible and starting again, matt doesn'y paint over silk verywellA penny saved is a penny earned.
The less you spend the more you have.0 -
Hi ..ive been a decorator for 26 years so just trying to help out..
crazing will occur if you apply a second coat to soon so only you will know how quick you applied a second coat
Where you applying a water based product ie matt or silk on a surface that might have had an oil based finish previosly ,that would cause a reaction
Had the wall been previously papered as remnants of paste can cause problems and slow down drying times
Matt goes on fine over silk as long as prepped well ,ie good rub down etc
Solution should be just a good rub down and give it another coat
obviously i cant see walls so just passing on advice as best i can with out seeing it
what paint have you used as you really do get what you pay for ie dulux and crown good ..sometimes better to spend a bit more on materials because in the end it saves on labour
hope this helps0
